Jockey Shift on my X-Bones Trike

Today I had my shifter changed out to a jockey shift. I had to add an extension and some custom bends to the shift rod to fit around my crossover pipe. This places the shifter between my legs rather than behind my ample rear end LOL.



This is a great set up for me so finding neutral is no longer a hit or miss exercise due to limited feeling in my left foot.



I was able to keep the stock shift lever for use as the new foot clutch lever (matches the bike better than the one that came in the kit). I had them leave my shifter in bare metal (no chrome) since I knew I would be heating it to bend it. I intend to powder coat it black to better match the bike.

Looks good. I'm using a hand shift under my butt. Don't always find the gear I want.

Thanks and I understand. I have neuropathy in my leg which limits my ability to feel the shifter and I jump from 1st to 2nd and vice versa too many times when attempting to hit neutral. Now it's just click and I am there.

I also think it goes really good with the theme of the bike. The only thing is now you have to plan ahead for some of your shifts.

I was considering doing the LaBriola tank shift on my crossbones trike buy worried about head/handlebar shake with only 1 hand on the bars, especially on turns or rough patches in road. Have you had any issues?

I installed a Widowmaker tank shift on my 2007 FLHT that was converted with a Champion IRS unit. I have an EFM Autoclutch in the trike, so I left the clutch lever on the handlebar. I'm real pleased with it's design and placement. The top of the shift lever is just below the left hand grip (I think that's more forward than the Labriola design). Last year I lost my left fingers and left leg and with this setup I can still manually shift the trike.

I also suffer with neuropathy and a left foot drop. I wonder if that's my problem finding neutral? I tend to only use the heel shifter and have to use my whole leg to shift. I will have to look into this and also have the head shake concern. My trike is not so bad but the sidecar rig wobbles in a second.

Is your sidecar rig raked? This could be the cause of head shake.

Nope the rig is not raked. I have wondered if the dampener needs adjustment or replaced.

Are the bars stiff to turn? I know the Triglide damper makes the bars harder to turn.
