    Default TTS Tuning the Waterhead 2014 bikes

    The TTS is going into beta with the new 2014 Touring bikes. This will include the water cooled heads. Why beta? Why won't the 2013 calibrations work for the 2014 Touring bikes?

    The new 2014 bikes have been changed from the old reliable J1850 ECM's to the CAN BUS + ECM which work together. The new radio is also integrated into the BUS mix. The other CAN BUS + ECM bikes like the Softail and Dyna do not have the radio integrated so the coding is different. Toss in the water cooled controls, well... the software code is a lot larger now than ever before. (short story)

    The TTS 2 Blue dongle will work with the 2014 bikes now and the Touring within a week or two. There will follow a new TTS 3 software upgrade allowing you to leave the computer at home, hook up the blue dongle using the Flight Recorder software and ride. This will record all the data you can muster for the proper use of VTune and flash the new calibration to your ride.

    One thing that sticks out more than other tweaks is the Fan Cycle Control for the water cooled bikes. (See the screen shot at the end of this post). Harley has both fans come on at the same time. Although the fans take time to ramp up they slap a nice hit on the electrical system. This has been resolved by cycling the fans at temps. The left fan will come on first and keep the heat exhausted to the left side. At a preset water temp the right side fan will come on and cycle on and off when the water temp drops. This is a much better configuration than HD has given you.

    So, for all you waterheads who want the best... Grab the TTS 2 Blue tuning dongle. By the time you get it the new software will be out and ready to tune.

    Any idea of time frame for the new software? I'd sure like to see flight recorder for next Friday ;-)

    Wiz..So are you saying "US", who already have the blue dongle, TTS2, we can download the TTS 3 software, hook up and improve the tune over what we have now?
    I really don't no if the tune YOu did for my 09 could be improved any , as its awesome right now!!!HaNkB

    I'll go out on a limb and say the TTS 3 software will be ready by the end of October if not sooner.

    Yes Hank... the blue dongle will get better and better..

    The new flight recorder will capture data for the VTune software. It will do the following...

    VE adjustment as always
    Cubic Inches adjustment on the fly
    EGR adjustments will be automatic now

    After Vtune you can up your timing tables by 3* and run FR again. It will see knock/ping and bring the timing down and make a new timing tables for you.

    Some of this will be for the black box as well but the blue box is upgradeable and the software is always free.

    I also bought a HD code reader, and low an behold my bagger project bike turns out to have a stage 1 , 103 download..
    I also got it hooked to a digital tech 11 at the stealers, and yes, it has a 103 kit installed at dealership when bike was new .. they also married my speedo over ...Bike only had 12000 kms..YES...
    It actually runs very well with the stage 1 download in it...HaNkb

    Here is a shot of a 2014 Limited waterhead Dyno graph.

    Muffler and AC change only.

    Notice the Stock lean fuel. When the cat header is replaced this bike should hit 100+ TQ.

    Bringing everyone up to speed.

    There remains bugs in the 2014 code that seem to be hindering all brands of tuners from issuing an updated software program for the touring 2014 bikes, water cooled or not, doesn't matter. It's the same code. Remember I'm only talking about Touring models with the new radio and/or water cooled.

    These bugs are in the Harley code. Harley is now aware of them and should be working on something soon. The Harley Digital Tech is the device used by all Harley Dealers to interact with the computer systems. Even they are showing these errors. Once HD has found and fixed all these bugs you will find a service bulletin calling all you 2014 guys in for a new flash.

    The TTS beta is working well on the 2014 touring bikes. Beta testers have tuned several and are reporting any bugs in the system. Since they know where the bugs are they can get a bike tuned smoothly. TTS is still going to wait and not release the public 2014 Touring software until they are confident the Harley bugs will have a "work around".

    The Vision Pro doesn't work on the 2014 Touring bikes just yet. There are numerous reports of their software upgrade crashing where you will have to call DynoJet to reverse the upgrade and take your VP back to where it was.

    The SEPro tuner by SPX (now owned by BOSH) does tune the 2014 Touring bikes but not without the same bugs in the code. Last report was it took all day to get a SEPro tuner to gather data to be able to create a flash-able calibration. The calibrations made by the SEPro tuner were said to be junk and made little to no improvements in the quality of the bikes tune.


    Steve George is a TTS beta tester and did a swap with his XPipe, 2.0 cores and air cleaner. He was able to take his 2014 from 88 Tq to 106 Tq with pulls in 6th gear. That's not bad at all.

    This was the last quote from Steve Cole at TTS.

    The 2014 new ECM and code that HD has done for the Touring and CVO models has problems! The code is not properly handling the HD-LAN messages. These problems have been reported by me to the HD factory to people I still know there from when we did there work. We have completely documented the problems and have all the data captures to prove just what is going on. The problems can be created with the factory tools the dealership has (ie: Digital Tech) so it's not something we've done. I've spent the better part of three weeks chasing the problems only to find out that it is not being caused by what we are doing. To make a long story short when you hook up DT or the SESPT it will cause the security light to come on in the dash. This light coming on is a sign that the ECM is now screwing up the HD_LAN messages! These messages are how all the various modules on the bike talk to one another. So now there are going to be trouble codes stored as historic codes in the ECM and some of the other modules. What all is going wrong when this happens we do not know but what we do know is the the odometer no longer works correctly, the ABS brake system, the IPC and the BCM all report loss of signals! There are other things that go on as well but let's just say it was really causing us to think we must be doing something wrong.

    After being able to create these exact problems with both the Digital Tech system and the new SESPT unit at the dealership with a stock bike we were somewhat relieved that it was not us but also knew that we have to do something with our product to try and stop the issues the best we can. While we cannot stop it 100%, we have been able to get rid of most of it but it does come at a cost in system performance. Once our Beta testing wraps up I will let everyone know what we did to get the product up and going but for know we are going to keep it to ourselves.


    This is the short story for now. As I know more I'll keep everyone in the loop.

    All the new 2014 bikes have the TTS calibrations ready to go. Update your TTS software and don't forget to click on the box for the new Flight recorder.

    Black dongle will not let you use the Flight Recorder or the upgrades in the TTS3 software when it comes out. If you know of someone with a Blue dongle you can use theirs to record and your Black to flash.

    All this "techy talk" confuses someone that has run carbs for.....well, many years. What TTS parts do I need to make a 14 Tri run to peak performance?

    That's right ...the Blue TTS is the latest and greatest from TTS....until TTS comes out with the Green TTS for the fully liquid cooled Harleys in 2020...
