Did anyone install HID lights on GL1800?

Hi,
I'm thinking about replacing stock bulbs with HID's. Did anyone install HID lights on the Goldwing GL1800? If yes, which hardware did you use and are you satisfied with this upgrade?

Thanks,
Michael

From my understanding you have to use a convertor box for real HID lights. If you're looking for a brighter light you can always try the PIAA lights they seem to have a good reputation.

I now have installed HID's and love them. Found a neat place to fit the ballasts under the front fairing. Highly recommend this upgrade, what a difference!

Best regards,

Good Job Mike. How about a picture? A before and after would of been good, but I bet that you didn't do the before.

You're correct, plenty of photos of before, but none with Lights on. I did however take few pictures of the location where the ballasts were installed under the fairing...see attached. Hope it helps, it took me a while to find this perfect spot for them.

Best regards,

Hi MPOLISSKY. I know it has been quite a while since this thread has been active, but I just found it. After I installed by Future Vision HIDs into my 2003 1800. Tucked the ballast into the same location & used elect. wire ties to cinch them down.

My question is: Did you have to use an adaptor or spacer between the bulb & the housing in order to get a snug fit? My H-7 bulbs fit into the reflector housing fine, but the spring-clip that snugs the bulb to the housing doesn't quite do the job. The bulb wobbles a bit. The dealer say it needs a spacer to snug it all up.

Yr feed back would be greatly appreciated.

I did the low beam and put the inverter/ballast by the fairing pockets. I want to put in the high beams . To put the ballast where it seems most put them would require taking the fairing all apart apparently. My little hands are way too big to get in there to put the ballast/inverter where it is shown.

Installed a kit from DDM
Very reasonible.
Only hang up is it takes about 10 days to receive your kit.
Very happy with results.

Go over to GL1800 riders board and do a search on DDM.

Plenty of help.

Just installed HID headlights from SoCal MotorGear They're plug and play and really are an improvement over the stock lights. Their website is SoCalMotoGear.com - Plug n Play Professional H.I.Ds - "Riding at night has never been brighter!" They're in Los Angeles Ca. :10:

I'm seriously considering getting the HID's from SoCal MotorGear. As far as I'm concerned, any upgrade to lighting is a worth while addition especially with all of our furry friends (deer) out there.

I'm just not sure if I should get only the low beams, or the lows and highs.

Any thoughts?
