AUTO Hunting problem Help!

I have a full automatic VW transmission about 1969 model in my Subaru trike. Here in Oz its ahrd to find any experts on these autos. My rpoblem is that at certain speeds it hunts from 3rd to 2nd and back to 3rd etc. Especially going up a hill. If the throttle is held at say half way and speed drops to 40mph it will change down to 2nd then 2 seconds later up to 3rd and on and on it goes until I either drop the lever into 2nd or open up the throttle to allow 2nd to stay in gear.

Have tried adjusting the solonoid screw in the vacuum but doesnt fix the problem.

Anyone got some ideas?

Look around the web for experts on the Vanagon automatic transaxle. They are out there and may be able to help.
The vanagon auto transaxle is very similar to the beetle auto transaxle so I have heard.

Tony, try replacing the modular valve.
