    Just picked up my 2013 Tri-Glide from dealer after a stage one upgrade that consisted of:
    SE EFI super tuner, SE stage 1 air cleaner, V&H power duals, V&H head adapter, and V&H Trike deluxe slip-ons. Bike sounds better and runs better but is popping back during deceleration when downshifting through the gears. No one in the Houston area has the equipment to dyno a trike so the mechanic used the program for the Electra Glide with the same engine and "tweaked" the final adjustments. Dealer says this popping back is normal after this upgrade with the V&H mufflers. Feedback from other owners who have had the stage one upgrade done would be appreciated.

    V&H slip-ons are particularly prone to decel pop. Decel popping does Not damage your engine...it is simply unburnt fuel that is burning in the exhaust tract after exiting the engine.

    Decel popping occurs when one of two things are present.

    1. The bike is so lean the exhaust is superheated and is burning the unburnt fuel that is in the pipes (there is always some unburnt fuel in the pipes no matter how lean). This is very rare.

    2. The AFR IN THE pipes is just right to burn the unburnt fuel. This is quite a common occurrence when free flowing pipes are installed (whether or not a free flow A/C is installed). It can also occur if there is an exhaust leak that is introducing extra air into the exhaust tract.

    It is always a good idea to check for exhaust leaks at every point, and intake leaks at the air cleaner and at the intake manifold/heads.


    If you don't like decel pop, the easiest way to get rid of it is to change the AFR in the pipes by adding Thunder Torque Inserts. They have helped many to eliminate/reduce decel pop. Plus they have the added benefit of a nice bump in low and mid range power. (see dyno charts in the link above).

    It is possible to tune the decel pop out also, however, this is going to be more expensive and almost always at the sacrifice of performance and/or MPG.

    Both ours pop back, one has V&H, other is Rush, both with Rhinehearts and Stage One. Had both checked for leaks - none, so I let it alone.

    I do not have the SE tuner I have the V&H fuel PAK for the reason they have always been able to help tune to my preference. I have the V&H power dual header, Rush Big Luies exhaust. I had same decel popping, I contacted V&H and they were able to get me a new tune set of numbers to enter to the fuel pak. Resolved the popping on first try. I then noticed my upper end was lacking torque, one more set of numbers and all was solved. Might be worth a try to contact V&H, they may have a SE tune they could provide?

    I have the same setup with the exception that I installed the V & H turndown mufflers. I have occasional decal pop when downshifting at mid to high rpms. No leaks.
    Just the usual's so far, SE Stage I Air Breather Kit, SERPT Tuner, V & H Power Duals, V & H Turndown Slip-on mufflers, Barnett +1 Carbon Fiber Clutch Kit, AIM 480# Clutch Spring, ClutchWiz, DK Products Comfort Soft Lift Kit, HD LED Headlight and Passing Lamps, HD Reduced Reach Touring Bars, Clearview 10" recurve windshield, Boom Audio Fairing and Passenger Speakers, Kuryakn Adjustable Passenger Footpegs, Rivco Trailer Hitch.

    Another option you may want to consider is the Cobra Fuel management system. It can detect adjustments at 81 times per second. Check it out, you won't be disappointed.

    One more tuner option is the Dynojet Power Vision tuner. You can address the decel area of your map specifically - I.e. Increase timing in small increments (no more than 5 percent) in concert with adding additional fuel (no particular limit as it will only affect the decel area) in say 5 percent increments until satisfied. A good friend went 5 degrees advance with 25 percent fuel to completely resolve his issue.

    This tuner is a very user friendly tuner in my opinion!!

    The OP already has a tuner which will allow a competent person make the needed adjustments. It may be something as simple as a leak in the exhaust. Or maybe some fuel added to the decel enleanment table, or some fiddling with the VE's to iron out most or all of the popping.

    Set the decell enleanment table to all zeros. Add some timing to the closed throttle table above 1500 RPM. This usually kills it.

    Can anyone provide a link to a source for a chart that describes what each setting number addresses? The V&H site only addresses two or three specifically so there's about 55 more that I"m in the dark about.

    Papa Ed, I also requested that information directly from V&H and it was not available and that is the reason I got rid of their tuner and installed the Dynojet Power Vision!! Good luck with your search!
