    Default Vance & Hines Fuelpak

I have an 2005 Ultra with Lehman trike. I was looking at the Vance & Hines Fuelpak. They say it will work with or without 02 Senso's. My bike is an 05 Ultra completely stock 88". Will this tuner be worth the purchase?

Junk!! Try a Power Commander or Dynojet Power Vision. You will be much happier. I have had (on previous and current bikes) the Fuelpak, Power Commander, Power Vision and the H-D SEPST, and the Power Vision is the most user friendly and efficient tuner of them all!!pepper

What you may be interested to know is... Your 05 can have 02 sensors!

The Harley ECM that was built in 2005 has the ability to read and use sensors if they are installed and wired into the ECM harness. The instructions and part numbers are in the TTS manual which can be freely downloaded.

I agree with the above...FP is junk and the choice should be completely yours to choose. I would highly suggest to use only a Flash Style Tuner that is not left on the bike nor tries to fool the ECM by giving poor data to operate the bike. Flash it, take it off and enjoy. If you install sensors the bike will adjust as you ride.

I have O2 sensors on my 06, they work great with the TTS and 120" engine.

Everyone likes to spend other peoples money. My 2 cents worth.
I have the Fuel Pak on my 2013 Tri Glide, and am very pleased with it.
The dealer recommended it because I was purchasing the V&H Power Duals, I was skeptical because I spend too much time reading forums, and saw everyone else had apposing opinions. Well the dealer gave me the choice, go with the one they recommended, and have a good result at lowest cost, or go with the SE or other pay more, and not have their expertise in tuning to make the bike run as well as they know it can.
As stated, I went with the Fuel Pak, and am more than pleased. I did make some changes after initial setup by contacting V&H, and they were very helpful to help provide a perfect tune per what I was looking for.
I saved money, and received excellent support for a good running bike.
I must note: I have not had any Dyno, nor do I feel I need to.
So not trying to offend anyone, just stating my experience, and saying they are not junk in my opinion.

My trike conversion is a 2003 so it ha a carburetor, however I also own 2012 Softail Slim with a 103 c.i.d. engine. I have a fuelpak on this bike and it performs great good power and high 30 mpg.

I had the V&H fuel pak on my 08 EG and was happy with it. I also have had it on my 11 Tri Glide since it was almost new. Very happy with it. I had no troubles with either of them.
I did try the Power Comander on a 06 I had before my 08. I didn't have a laptop then nor do I now. I had to get the map on my desktop computer and then take my desktop out to the garage, set it up and try to install the map in the power commander. I never could get it right. Just my opinion but unless you have a laptop and understand computer programs stay away from those that require you to plug a computer into them.
On my 08 V&H told me what to set it at and it worked great. Same on my 11.
The fuel pak has worked great for me on both bikes. Both bikes were stock engines with after market air breathers and pipes. 08 was the 96 and the 11 is the 103.

I see several people espousing the Fuel Pac....here's the thing. The Fuel Pac may very well work ok for the OP. It may, and it may not. However, will it be as good as it can be? No way. There is no substitute for creating a tune for a specific bike. Even similar if not identical bikes with the same alterations will have different "perfect" tunes. There are just so many variables, riding style, available gas type, atmospheric differences, etc etc etc. There are a lot of devices that will get someone in the ballpark, but only a few that will get them perfect or close to perfect. While I, personally, have always believed that there was no substitute for a really good tuner using a device he was extremely familiar with, I have recently altered my opinion somewhat. I, personally, have a TTS Mastertune. With the newest software out, I can plug it into my bike, go riding for a day or a week, and then download the files to my computer, let the program manipulate them a bit, and upload them back to my bike. Do I require a computer at the bike? Yes, in order to get the tune into the bike. Do I now require a computer to ride with the bike? Nope, not unless I want it to help visualize the tune.

A Fuel Pac will adjust the fuel map. It won't do a thing for the timing or the EGR map. Others will, which means that regardless of how close V&H may be able to get your tune (over the phone), you will still be leaving quite a bit on the table. In addition, a Fuel Pac is there for anyone to see while servicing the bike (same with a Power Commander), and an ******* Dealership can report it and invalidate part of your OEM warranty, and totally invalidate your aftermarket extended service plan. Now a Race Tuner or Mastertune will do the same, but they would have to read the ECM to see if one was used....and, at least with the Mastertune, you can remove all traces of the device so Harley can't tell it was ever used. The Power Vision was mentioned, but I have no first hand knowledge of it.

100 % regarding your assessment of the V&H Fuel Pak!! You mentioned you had no knowledge of the Power Vision, might I suggest that you take a look at this product to familiarize yourself. I have one on my 2013 V-Rod Muscle and one on my 2013 Trike w/120r motor and really like the way they both run. I can do everything on the Power Vision that you can do with the Race Tuner without a computer at all. And once the tune is done you can remove from the bike and leave NOTHING behind since it modifies the ECM and is not an add-on/left behind device.

Roger, I said I had no first hand knowledge, that doesn't mean I know nothing about it. I am intrigued by the gauge you can mount on your handlebar to monitor things, but I also have heard several times that the PV does, in fact, leave some traces that can be detected. I think, for what I've read, that it's not necessarily every unit, but some do, so no way to tell. Honestly, if I could purchase a used PV to play with, I would, if the price was right since it's locked to the original ECM.

I don't want to sound all matter-of-fact or that I know more than others but for if nothing else but piling on the FP... here goes...

Back when I was physically doing more tunes than I am now I had first hand, hands on knowledge of the Fuel Pak, Power Commander, SEPro, TTS, SERT, iXed and the Cobra.

Here's what ended up in my shop trash can. Fuel Pak and Power Commander were #1. SEPro, Cobra and iXed's were a close second. It wasn't me that tossed them. I just showed the rider what a TTS/SERT could do. Yeah, the PV has a cool little monitor but if you are looking at a monitor you aren't paying attention to the road.

Cool Re: Vance & Hines Fuelpak

I gotta make a comment on the Power Vision tuner. I have one and the trike runs great so far (haven't had it long). I see no reason to be looking at the Monitor if the bike is running well................I am a gauges watcher even before I got the Tuner. It's from being a Track tester for Fords for over 30 years. You gotta use the technique of "one eye on the road and one eye checking the gauges once in awhile" ....As said in past Forums, Get the Tuner that your local Mechanic (if you aren't one) knows how to use and make work right for your Trike. I also know that alot of Harley Dealerships know about the Power Vision tuner. That may help when traveling....just my two cents worth---------------

    Roger,

Question. I am looking at putting the Power Vision on my 2015 trike, with VH components. So, this will do nothing as far as voiding anything on ESP. Correct. When you look at ESP it does not list Exhaust anyway.... I'm glad you are happy with it as well. thanks.

    John, Welcome to Trike Talk

Did you buy your trike this way?

You could always have your dealer hook up their digital tech scanner to tell you what tune you have
