Took Kira on a 50 something mile ride ... She's becoming quite the "Biker Babe" ... need to get her a leather jacket ... might wait until she quits teething though ... I keep trying to get a picture of her behind me ... but she keeps biting the phone ...

To answer your question, the "grit" felt like finely ground asphalt. I am at a loss to explain how it got there. I am going to look at the bearings (I still have them) to see if it could be the bearing seals were (granulating) failing and the source of the grit. The new retainer plate installation went very smoothly. Even the delay in getting the bearings removed, new plates on, and reassembly was an easy upgrade. The Pro Action Shock install was quick and easy. It will be hard to tell how improved they are, as I haven't ridden since October and my butt may not remember the old ride. We're going to do a ride for the next three days in southeast OH - Marietta, Logan, Zanesville area, so I'll get the feel for the new shocks.

Again, apologies for the delayed reply. Now it's time to go RIDE!
Good to hear you're healthy and back riding!

I think you'll be able to tell the difference, even after a lay-off.

Yeah, could be the bearing seals. Interesting, I've not seen that before.

Had my Road Zeppelin seat replaced and installed new fender bras. The plastic clips broke on one side.

Finally have the cat less head pipe installed. I have not had a chance yet to put some miles on the new setup yet. But I do feel a little more torque and a lot more sound coming out of the Cobras now. Next step is to take a 50 mile trip and see where the temperatures are at.

Did something happen to your RZ?

Edit: I just saw your other thread, glad it worked out so well for you!

By removing plates from the right, you would add back pressure, so the left would get more flow. Interesting that I had it backwards..

I've always understood it to be:

Less plates, less flow, more torque, more back pressure, quieter.

More plates, More flow. less torque, more high end HP, louder.

Need to do some more research on these.
Okay ... so after a conversation (via email) with Fuel Moto, basically describing how I ride and what my goals for the Tri are, we decided I might start playing with the "balance" the exhaust thing. My stated goals were to not loose any power and maybe gain some torque. Maybe even loose some noise if possible ... LOL ... I'll make it a Gold Wing yet.

We decided to take two plates off the right side and add them to the left. Basically this would restrict some flow to the right and allow more flow to the left and go from there. This basically was less than spectacular. Seat of the pants torque seemed to go up, but, highway power, IE, passing a semi, seemed to lag. Also, I didn't really notice any sound change.

So, this morning I took one from the left and added it to the right. So, I was at 14 left and 12 right. Kira and I went for a ride. The trike had maybe a tad more torque and the sound was less. So far, so good. Out to the highway ... cruise set to 70 mph and "pretend" I need to pass a semi. Good acceleration, almost no bark (except Kira ... LOL) ... still not the Gold Wing Hmmmmmmm, but, pretty stealthy.

I think I like where I am ... but, you know me, I may add one plate to each, just for grins and try that. Or maybe just one to the right.

As a side note, this was Kira's first ride on the Highway at 70 mph and up to 80 ... she did well ... actually, I think she loved it ... She's taken to barking at every vehicle she sees. I thought this would get tiresome ... but, when we are moving I can barely hear her ... when we are at a light or stop sign, it does get a bit on my nerves. Good news, we don't do much if any "stop-n-go" here in happy valley and, I think when the newness wears off she'll settle down a bit.

The only real issue with Kira on the trike is when we stop to fuel up ... she gets so excited if anyone else is filling up. She's never met anyone she didn't like.

Yea ... they are weird to say the least ... they have plates that you can add or subtract to adjust power, noise and torque ... six Allen screws on each is all it takes to adjust them. You can see the plates in this picture. The exhaust actually goes out between the plates ... the end is blocked off.

Fuzzy, don’t add plates to the left side. I would in fact even them up at 12 per side and go from there. Remember the left side normally doesn’t flow that much exhaust. You don’t want to try to force to much more exhaust thru the left, as that would be counter productive. The balance is to keep enough back pressure on the left side so it does not reduce the efficiency of the right side. More plates louder, less back pressure, more mid to top end pull, as you know. Find the sound level your looking for by adjusting the right side first. Go for a ride see how it performs. Repeat. It’s a pain and time consuming, but you can really dial them in.

Wow ... guess you're right ... not listed on Fuelmoto.com anymore ... ... none on eBay.

These are kind of the same thing, but don't know anything about them ... but the concept is the same.
