I often wondered about that salty sea air and what it does to toys. On our way to SW Florida we visited friends who were in a beach RV park in Destin for the month of February. I didn't say anything to my friends because they were committed to staying the whole month but I would have been concerned about the corrosive effect of the Gulf sea air. I think cars are protected better from a corrosion standpoint than toys are.
Yeah. The really aggravating thing about that is I've got about $10 grand worth of tools sitting in my garage from when I worked as an airline mechanic. I've even got a set of Whitworth tools for working on old British airplanes (and motorcycles), but nothing I had would fit the new Harley parts.
Maybe that's why I stopped working on airplanes and went to driving truck for the last 5 years. The only tools required are a brain and a set of keys, and I could do most of the work while sitting down.

2015 TriGlide Ultra, Black Magic
Touring America on 2, 4, 6 and 18 wheels since 1963. Now on three wheels too!
I ran into that too and found it confusing. When my Bud with a Honda VTX would bring his bike over for us to tinker on, he would bring all his metric tools with him. Except for the ones we usually ended up needing. Got tired of messing with that so I bought a big pile of metric crap to have handy. Now when I tinker on my TG, if a tool does not fit just right, I try the metric,, and it often fits better. It is a head shaker that ya gotta have 3 times as many tools, and 2 separate tool boxes, laying around to work on a Harley.

Rick,
Have you had the chance to try the Custom dynamics at night? I bought them in Daytona and put them on with clear lenses but haven't tried them at night. How much do thye help with the LED darkspots? BTW I like your taste in Trikes...

2020 Triglide MidnightBlue/Barracuda Silver
Just beginning our ride together
I gassed her up and then took her to Cave creek AZ for the Start of AZ bIke week
Took the Kuryakyn hitch off ... I doubt I'll need the luggage carrier.
I also mounted my power vision on the left bar, not sure how long it will stay there, as my poor old eyes cAn barely see it ... although the sun was behind me and kind of washed it out ... I set the gages up to monitor engine temp and coolant temp. Went for about a 50 mile ride, when I could see the gages, mainly when the sun wasn't behind me, engine temp hung out at about 195-200 and coolant temp at 200 rock solid. Kinda like being able to glance an those parameters.
I also finally found a set of the Vance and Hines old style ovals circa 2002 on eBay .. they were only $200 shipped and from the pictures are in great shape for their age ... I had these on my 2007 and loved the sound and really got some good performance out of them. (103 kit, 255 cams, stage 1 AC .. I was pulling 104 hp and 109 ft lbms torq) so I'll be putting those on. I've been looking at eBay for two years for them, every time a set comes up they are either waaaay too much money or in crappy shape. These have a small ding about 3" from the inlet on the right pipe ... you'll never see it, but I'll know it's there ... LOL ... these are the ones that slash were the top is longer than the bottom ... should never drag.

Last week or so we've had some warm weather and I've been riding the Softail or the Sporty.
Today it was raining when I headed out to the shop, so got the TG out for the first ride in a week or so.
Also, started making the list of things to get taken care of before we start on some of our Spring & Summer travels.
1. Mary is working at improving her custom backrest.
2. Put my slip-ons (need to get them ceramic coated first) and Stage I air cleaner back on
3. Build some scoops for the Oil Bud cooler (the water pump blocks most of the flow of air to it) to get more air passing across it.
4. Need a new front tire, and I think that after years of reading, and talking with guys that have done it, I'm going to give a shot at putting a rear tire (reversed) up front.
5. I have a safety hinge for the TP I need to install.
6. ???? Still working on the list.

Well today I had my buddy over to help me move the axel on the trailer I'm modifying to hold the Tri ... it went so easy we had lots of time left (plan was to take him to lunch as a thanks for his help). Anyway ... with time left I asked if he would help get the Tri on jack stands so I could be proactive and clear coat my rear wheels. So that's what we did.
After the trike was on the jack stands we went to lunch and I took him home. I then got some paint, tape and alcohol. The wheels looked really good, I just did an alcohol cleaning, then a cleaning with 50/50 alcohol and water, then just water. I did a quick wipe with a tach cloth and away I went. Four thin coats allowing 30 minutes to dry in between. Thanks Keven of DK for the idea.
I originally pulled the center hub thing, but decided what the heck ... coat it too.
While it's up on the jacks, I pulled the rear brake pads and did a light wire brush to them, there was still some of the black anodize on the pads from the rotors ... put them back in. Next I retorqued the mounting bolts for the lift and shocks. Couldn't hurt, and they were at spec.
In the morning, I'll put the centers back on, put the wheels back on, lower it down and torq the lugs. And I'll be off for a ride ... 50-100 miles, come back and retorq lugs and check it off the list of todos.
The pic is before I did any cleaning. Like I said ... I'm doing this to be proactive and to make future cleaning easier.
FWH that will take a lot of work off you and keep a lot of road grime off the wheels...
