I had a stator repair done and when New Castle Harley had the primary off I had them install a thirty tooth on the front which I purchased from a friend and member here on trike talk. The change was great at 8 years old my 6th gear was like new cause I never got to use before the pulley switch. However after a few years and wanting to run a few Interstate highways I found the top end seemed a little gear bound and the top end rpms. were higher than I liked, not to say I'm expert on this but I just didn't like the sound of the motor at 70+ mph for long periods of time. High rpms. make heat and heat effects oil and that effects engine parts see where I'm going with this. At 70 I was running close 30-32,000 possibly a little more hard to remember of the top of my head. So I wanted to get somewhere in the middle of the rpm range, so either change front pulley to a 31 tooth and all the labor incurred cause the entire left side must be removed or go to a little higher tire for way less expense and I can have that done myself. So 202X70rX15 are now on. I got a great deal on a pair figuring if this didn't work out the utility trailer needed tire anyways. The speedo is 2mph slow at 55 (certified PSP) not enough to get you in trouble bottom end is still very nice no issues starting out like the 32 tooth pulley but the higher tires have seemed to removing the high rpm wall if you follow what I mean by that. My cruising temperatures are much lower, if I ever find my note book I logged all of this Air temp humidity time of day etc. Bottom line I lower engine temps by dropping rpms in 6th gear cruising that alone makes it worth it, now if you want change front pulley or just go with 70 series tires tires give you a chance to see without spending 1,000 on parts and labor. Now if you run an M8 it should be a win win as well with the storied bottom end torque they are creating or so I've been told. Good luck ride safe Fred

    P.S.

Just to add the higher tire effected how the trike handled it really planted the front tire like never before, I could not believe it it was that good. But the downside was it nose dived like never before Junk spring and very little oil in them (never serviced I realized) I was trying to corner faster than before and my front forks were bottoming out so I upgraded to Pro Action touring works for me a little noisy but it really handles now.

Not sure there is not a lot of extra room for a wider tire. Other than looks there is no need, my concern now is weight verses tire size and I believe it is at the edge now. Just not enough machine for good traction on wet surfaces my opinion. Travel safe Fred

    Default Added Smart Siren II

Added the Smart Siren II and pager this weekend. Played with it a bit. I'm aware the battery on the pager must be changed regularly (monthly or so). I primarily got it for use when traveling and staying in sometimes less than respectable motels. Also for use when away from it at Bike Week events.

I went with a Michelin Commander II, rear tire, reversed. I've run that before and was very happy with it.

Also, along the lines of tires...I have tried the Ride-on product to get a 2 in 1 benefit of balancing and sealing in case of a puncture. I have not had a good experience with it in the motorcycle tires I tried it in.

So will be using the proven dyna beads in this tire.

Correction to my previous post above-

Well, last night I unwrapped the tire to get it ready for Mary to take this morning. It is an American Elite. Part # 4513-1089.

I asked Devin to get an American Elite or a Commander II. I thought for sure he told me he got a Commander II. But that is not what I have.

So it looks like I will be running the American Elite (rear tire reversed) for the next 15-20K miles.

As Gomer Pyle would say, 'surprise, surprise!' Looking forward to your report on this tire.

Fred you got me to wondering when H-D changed the trans sprocket and a little research confirmed it was in 2011 that they went to the 30 tooth sprocket. So the 2009s and 2010s had the 32 tooth and the TGs have always had the 70 tooth rear sprocket.

I agree that with the 30t sprocket the motor is a tad 'busy' at interstate speeds. But then again I do try to avoid that but of course it is not always possible. I'm interested to try the 70 series tire but what with a new TG don't want to spend the bucks to replace brand new tires. Oh well guess I'll just ride 'til I wear 'em out, lol.

Fred, I hope those Goodlucks I mean Goodyears last you awhile. I'll never run them on anything again after having 2 vehicles with GY on them break belts within a year. I only run firestones on my truck now and will probably stick with Michelins on the Trike.

Thank you for the information if these go south on me I'll most likely replace with BFG'S. I only have 100 buck's in these Goodyear's just an experiment I may swap them for others at the first sign of issues thank you. Ride safe Fred

We got another 110 miles on the new trike, next time out we'll hit 500 break-in miles. Also ordered a few things from DK for the trike, tourpak relocation, extended shift peg and rider floorboard extenders.

Just add today I rode the trike to the office. At 60mph I was at 2,500 rpms in sixth gear. To much traffic could not get to 70mph. Just a good place to start the power curve for a Twin cam believe. Travel safe Fred

    Default Trip through the mountains

Today I treated the Tri-Glide to an approximately 200 mile ride through the high desert and into the pines, then down into the valley floor and back to the high desert (where I live).....

Checked the fluids, aired the tires and adjusted the suspension, now the first break in the weather I'm ready to jump on it and head to Kerrville. Still calling for snow in this neck of the woods

    Default Battery slow start...

Out with the old and in with the new. 7 yrs. Old past time for a replacement not fooling with an old battery. I have not one issue replacing it. This old battery has had a great life. I do not plan on getting stranded. Ride safe Fred

Hmmmm, mine is turning 2500 at 60 as well. You said you went with taller tires, correct?

yes that is what the gages are telling me. I will next time out put mph and tach on the PV And see if I have anything different. You may want to count the teeth on your front pulley (31) possibly. Remember OEM SPEEDO IS USUALLY IN ACURATE

Most vehicles Speedometers read faster than actual speed by design....

The old trike was adjusted by New Castle Harley I'm sure mine is right certified by an old friend in Ford Ranger with fancy lights.

Yeah, I got mine from my FP3 on MPH and RPM. Maybe my gear was changed in the past before I purchased it.
