    I had forgot, (CRS) I had that shield. One season & covered with scratch's. Always used a soft cloth. Anyway I now have a LRS Reaper. Wide like the Freedom. The Freedom was so bad I thrashed it. Don't remember ever having a shield do that before that bad. I pulled out an old LRS I had for years & put it on end of last year & there were no scratch's on it but it was old style & we really liked the wider Freedom. Now LRS has the Reaper which is similar to the Freedom. Boys got it for me for Xmas, so I would have it when the new bike came, Janiene really likes it also.
    2020 TriGlide Tahitian Teal aka (Hawaiian Hussy). Avon frt & Comfortred rear tires. ProAction frt & rear susp. RZ seat. DK floorboard extension & rear axle retainer kit with EBS, HD pull -back bars. Custom Dynamics front turn signals & Vent grill. All ,HD "Edge Cut " accessories.

    The Fat Bottom Girl Has three new Feet .

    Total mounting charges including the ride on, was $44.65.

    It was right at 100* today, and I really didn't feel like doing too many miles ... I went and had Nitrogen put in all three tires 36# front and 26# rear. I did go and do about 40 miles just to ensure the ride on was "spun around" to balance the tire.

    So, at first the thing I noticed, like within a couple feet, the front end of the trike feels "lighter". I'm guessing it because this front tire is a beast.

    You can see from the picture, they have a short patch (like 3 feet or so) of "dirty" asphalt that it rode thru to get out to where I could pick it up. There is a "dirt" stripe that shows the contact patch of this tire ... lets just say it's wide. Guessing there is probably 50 to 100% more contact than the OEM Dunlap. Not sure if that's why the front end feels lighter, but, it does.

    The rears to me, at least, feel a little "squishy" ... the sidewall to me looks like it is not inflated correctly, even at 26#.

    So on to the ride. As I said, maybe a little squishy. Maybe just because it's designed to give a softer ride. To be honest, I think the ride is enhanced by the "squishy" feel. Around town.

    I took the trike to the highway. I did a slow increase of speed to allow the ride on "balance the tires". When I got to around 50 mph or so, I felt some out of balance vibration, so I held it just below that for a few miles, like 5 (I'm fortunate, that I 70 west of the Grand Valley is more like Death Valley these days ... really empty). I then brought the speed up and the vibration was gone. Brought it up in 5 mph increments and around 70 mph I felt it again. Held it just below that and as before after about 5 miles, I brought the speed up. Again, the vibration was gone. I got it up to around 85 mph with no further issues.

    When in turns it basically feels like it did when I had 22# in the dunlop's. There is more "lean" or feeling of lean than I would like. So, I have two options ... in my humble opinion ... I could add 4# to my rear tires bringing them up to 30# ... not sure that is the way to go, kind of defeats the addition of the "Comfort treads". I think I'm leaning to adding a 1/4 to 1/2 turn, maybe more, but I don't think it will take that much, of preload to the shocks. From there I think adjusting the clicker valve thing up or down would dial in the ride while still giving the stability I like.

    So, without further ado, in the AM I'm gonna jack up the trike, remove the wheels, add 1/4 turn to the shocks, replace the wheels, let down the trike and go test ride. Then repeat as necessary ... ... can you say de ja vu?

    Should have installed the shocks AFTER doing the new wheels ... of course, then I wouldn't have know wether it was the tires or the shocks that improved the ride. Caught between a rock and a hard place.

    My wooden sword is all dulled up, and I'm off to tilt at the windmills.

    P.S. I think I'll swing by Big O and have the rears adjusted to 28# ... maybe just to save me some effort.

    I looked at the LRS and it is a good shield for sure but John at Freedom has treated me so well on a couple shields I got from him that I went back to Freedom. Don't know why yours scratched so bad but you should have called John and I bet he would have made it right. I had his Freedom shield on my 2018 for over 25k and while I did get a couple small rock pecks I had absolutely no scratches. Anyway good luck to us both in our choices.

    The 17 TG is coming up on 50K miles and the manual calls for rebuilding the Front shocks so I ordered a kit, oil, Seals and Bushings from Pro Action.

    Really nice people and fast shipping, ordered about noon Monday

    I have a trip coming up the end of this month through the 4th and plan to have them installed after we return.

    Bob get them done now you will not believe the difference, these will end the nose dives and washing out on the curves. Just one day for a novice and if you have done it before it is simple. Bump the rebuild up on the to do list to before the trip. travel safe Fred

    You might want to try more nitrogen in that front tire.

    Interesting ... I might try that ... maybe go to 40 psi in the front? Might help with the front end lightness, I'm liking the light feel, way easier to steer.

    My new plan of action is to start early in the am (Maybe 5:30 to 6 today it was 92 by 11 am, I'm getting too old to be on the ground ... and hot) and start adding 1/4 turn to the preload at a time. Based on what I saw before the tires, might start with a 1/2 turn. I'm fairly sure it will need at least that much. Couple of things that should be noted, I still have nothing in the trunk and very little in the tour pak. When I start putting the tools back in, I think it will need the additional preload. Gonna be about 100-120# of stuff.

    When I get the preload right again, I set the clickers to three and three (which it will be set at when I start playing with the preload). Maybe adjust the clicker things some. Then, I'll bump the front to 40# and maybe go up to 28# on the rears ... I'm learning to do one change at a time, slower in the short run, but, actually saves time in the long run. Also learning to do the hard stuff first, then the easy stuff.

    So that's the plan.

    I don't have an Avon right now, but when I did, I ran 41 in it and liked it. It still had that different feel about it, but it either went away after a while, or I got used to it. I described what it was like in post #24 at this thread- https://www.triketalk.com/forum/thre...ont-tire/page3

    Regarding the rears...if you liked how the shocks were set prior to installing the Comfortreds, why not leave the shocks alone and put more PSI in the tires to reduce the sidewall flex that is making the squishy feeling you don't like?

    The shocks are dialed in....it is the tires that changed that resulted in more squishiness than you like. They are rated for more air if you want, and that will reduce what you're not liking.

    Definitely gonna add air up front, probably in the rears as well. Do you think the shocks will handle 120#-125# additional weight and the trailer tongue weight with the current preload? It's currently set 1 full turn more preload. The clickers are at 3 and 3.

    I n my experience towing trailers best way to fined out hook up and load it and take a ride cautiously at first best way to go. I would increase tire pressures first though. Good luck pray it all comes together for you Fred

    I took a class at Wing Ding many years ago, it was called "Motorcycle Trailering", I thought it was gonna be about putting a bike on a trailer and towing it. You can see my issue. Apparently there is a big difference between towing and trailering.

    Anyway, since I showed up, I figured I would listen. Pretty interesting class with bunches of do's and don'ts. Your advice was right up there. Somebody, and I can't remember who did a study on bikes pulling trailers and the effects that has on operation of the bike. They concluded that when pulling a trailer behind a motorcycle, it's important to ensure the trailer is no more that 1/3 to 1/2 the weight of the bike at the most, less is better.

    They also went into great detail about tongue weight. I've long forgotten the why's, but, I remember they recommended adjusting the tongue weight to 15# to 17#. I use a Zebco fish scale to load the trailer. Always felt like the trailer wasn't even there. Sometimes the weight can be felt on the big wind days.

    That description is dead on. Hard to describe, but, it does just feel like the front end is light. I did some of the slow speed flipping the bars right and left, and although I didn't get the rears to break, I couldn't get the front to break either. Truth be told, I'm kind of liking the light feeling, my arthritic left shoulder (rotator cuff surgery) is really liking it. I'm not saying the front end is any lighter, just feels that way.

    So onto the windmill tilting. I was up at 4:30, and outside with the trike on the python rear elevated and wheels removed by 5:30. Temp, 64* ... . I added a half turn preload to both shocks and set the clickers to 3 on each.

    Went for a test ride. The ride was a tad firmer but in no way harsh. I took it to the highway and the stability was better, but, not as good as it was with the OEM tires.

    Came home, added another half turn preload to both shocks. Head out for a test ride again and there wasn't much difference in the ride. still firm, but when you hit a bump it's just 'bump' and done. No back jarring, just 'bump' and done. So, out to the highway. The stability thing was really nice. Maybe better than before the new feets.

    By this time it was getting close to 7am, Big O opening time, so headed there to add Nitrogen. I think the techs there are getting to know me ... LOL ... two of them ran out to help me and one finally prevailed. I had them air them up to 40# front and 28# Rears. Handed him ten dollars (probably why they are eager to help me ) and headed out to the highway. The stability was about the same, maybe a tad better. The trike tracked really well. I could actually "feel" the rear axle moving to adjust to our less than smooth roads.

    So, I may do some playing with the clicker thing, but, I'm liking the overall ride and feel.

    I have learned one thing ... if anyone asks me again wether I like a softer ride or a performance ride, I'm going with performance.

    All kidding aside, it has been a great learning experience. If I was to give anyone some advice, it would be to go to DK's web site, look at the questions they ask. Write them down, then go think about them for a little bit before you submit the answers. I suspect I could of saved myself a bunch of work if I would of done that.

    Some obvious examples, I told them I carry like 65# (more like 130#). I also told them, if I remember, I wanted a plush ride. I'm guessing that had I told them 130#, plus 25# co rider, plus, 17# trailer tongue weight and I want more performance, less mushy or plush ride, Kevin's group would have probably had the shocks at 2 more turns of preload and 3 clicks each shock.

    But, it's been fun, it's been real, just not real fun ... ... I've been accused of liking to "tinker" ... guilty as charged ... keeps the beast at bay in a positive way ...

    Sounds like you have it dialed in with the new tires.

    I know you've taken a long time to get everything "just" where you want it. More than most of us would....BUT, I still remember, like it was yesterday, how good your Power Vision tune was. Better than I got (after MANY, MANY hours of tweaking) and better than any tune that I had seen generated by dyno work.

    It really is the little things that make a difference, and enough of them combined make a Big Difference!

    The important thing is, You're Happy!

    Sometimes I wish my brain would let stuff go ... to be honest ... and don't let it get out ... I'm still working on the power vision .... I have the mpg/range thing dialed in pretty close, like a half mpg ... I figure ten, maybe 15 tanks of gas and I'll have it figured out ... ... you've heard the expression, "The heart wants what the heart wants" ... in my case, it's, The Beast wants what the beast wants". For the record, the Beast is what I "lovingly" call my brain. After about 6 months of counseling while in the Navy, the counsellor advised me to quit trying to get my brain to let stuff go, instead, try to keep it entertained. The shocks totally did that for a couple weeks ... that in itself was worth the $$$ ... the performance and the ride are just a bonus.
