Today was another 4940 miles since the last oil change. So I was out in the shop this afternoon doing a few things-
Changed the oil and cleaned the oil filter.
Grabbed a bit of oil to send off to Blackstone...just to satisfy my curiosity.
It's been about 4k miles since I swapped out my EBS. This bike has been a spitter since it was new...but even so, at 4k miles the filter is still clean and dry.
On a different note...my bumper has close to 100k miles on it, including a lot of rough roads up in the Yukon and Alaska.
It has held up fine until someone was standing on it, and actually bouncing...one of the brackets cracked, so I removed it for some repair.
TG looks naked without the bumper....plus the crookedly mounted slip-on really shows now!

The rear bumper makes the tri glide in looks and protection. I had a bumper installed before I rode the trike off the HD lot. Has not been off in 3 years. Jim

Got my zerk fittings in...
...going to be installing on my primary case for the shifter shaft. Used to have these on all my bikes, but in the last 10 years or so have not, nor have I felt the need.
However, on my '14 TG it is getting a bit loose. Not sure why, but going to fix it.

Just replaced my 2016 stock seat with a HD Hammock. So far so good, noticeable difference.
Ordered Parts from Kevin @ DK Products...
Pulled the Cool-Masters off today in preparation to install some Mighty Mites.
Will be selling them soon if anyone is interested.
I installed them June 11 and they have just over 9000 miles on them.

Had a problem with the radio on our '12 Triglide cutting out but would start playing again if I toggled the speaker switch. I removed the radio and was going to send it to Iron Cross radio for repair when I call my locall HD dealer to seehow much a new radio is si I'd know how much to insure this radio for when the guy tole me about a refurbishing program HD has that takes less time if I'll let them install the radio. Well this sounded good because this way I don't have the expense of shipping the radio and the chance of it getting damaged so I went for it. Every thing seems to work OK, except the front speakers don't work when the speaker switch is in the full forward position but work in the center position. Gonna have to take it back I guess.

At least it has a full one year warranty.
Well, well. I should have looked at the screen closer. When the switch is in the forward position a head-phone pic comes on indicating the speakers aren't going to worK, only the head-phones. Didn't notice that in traffic. But the odd thing was, when the radio was cutting out and I had to toggle the switch to get it to come back on, the radio DID play with the switch in the forward position THEN.
Now that all is said and done I wish I'd have taken the time to go thru Iron cross because they make some up-dates that HD may not have made. Oh well, ain't hind site always 20/20!

I had Cobra true duals header pipes installed. Anyone need the stock 2016 Triglide headers? Free, just reimburse shipping from Illinois. Merry Christmas.
Had 3 surgeries since 11/8 for kidney stones and got the stents that they put in taken out yesterday.
It has been a miserable couple months but the stones are gone and I feel a lot better today.
The temperature outside got up to 51 and with me feeling like I can actually do somethin I installed the Love Jugs Mighty Mite fans that have been in the closet on my 2017 TG. This didn't take long as I had Coolmasters on it that are on EBAY now, so it was a simple swap.
Once done I still felt pretty good so I took it for a 35 mile ride.
It is amazing how much better mood I am in now. My wife has said I have been a little grumpy lately.
Not being able to ride or do much of anything else does that to me.

Haven't been on the trike in a while, hopefully tomorrow the weather will hold and I will get in a few miles. My wife says I am an old grumpy man, so I should ride every day. Jim

Picked up the trike from the dealer with the new front fender installed, looks good as expected. It was nice getting back in the wind, the Misses has about 4 more weeks before she can ride, her knee Doc said possibly after her next appointment.

Life's journey is not to arrive at the grave in a well-preserved body, but to skid in sideways, totally worn out, shouting...Holy Sh!t What a ride!
Cloudy/rainy day today in North Florida so a good time to perform my 5k service on my 2017 TGU. The original M8 engine had grenaded on this trike at about 15 miles (oil pump) and the engine was replaced in November 2016. I bought the trike with the new engine and 90 miles on the odometer. The M8 engine has been using a bit of oil since the 1k service but I would say well less than 1 quart for the intervening 4k miles of service but need to add a dab to keep it at the half-full line on the dipstick about every 200-300 miles.
Have not noticed any problems with the reported scavaging between the engine oil and/or transmission oil level which has stayed exactly right on the money during the 4k interval.
Pulled the air cleaner as part of the service and did not notice much in the way of oily mist residue inside the air cleaner or the throat of the throttle body itself (I did take a paper towel and wipe the inside of the air cleaner, throttle body and the oil recirculating tube end). I think keeping the oil at half way up the dipstick and not attempting to keep at the "full" mark keeps the engine from excessive blow-by. I also inspected the magnet on the oil drain plug and am happy to report that there was almost no noticeable metal shavings on the magnet. There was a bit of small metal filings on the 1k service but nothing alarming whatsoever.
It will be interesting to see if the oil consumption rate slows as the trike continues to get ridden more and the engine hopefully does a bit more seating of all moving components inside? The only thing I dread is the 30k service where I will likely have the dealership do the spark plug replacement. Other than that, the maintenance on this 2017 M8-engined machine seems just as easy as my 2016 TC 103 ci was in terms of doing the routine maintenance.
I have been thinking about going down to the lower West Coast of Florida (family has a home in Port Charlotte) for 7-10 days after New Year's day and riding the piss out of the trike all over South Florida. I will be able to get a better handle on the oil consumption which is currently slightly more (10-15%) than my former 2016 that had almost 15k miles on the odometer when I traded it in for just a few thousand dollars of depreciation between the 103 TC and the new M8-engined trike (I think they wanted to get rid of the "tainted" trike that had blown up with 15 miles <grin>). Another of the reasons that I did the trade was wanting the low-end grunt of the M8 in the somewhat porky TGU.
Nothing, had to settle for looking at pictures from July's road trip.
