    Default Synthetic Oil

I had the original oil changed out for Synthetic Oil today. I swear it runs smoother, sounds different, and has more power? Might be my imagination, whatever, I like it. Now to put some more miles on it

Wow what a great day for August in the South. Temp at 10 am was only 75. Went for a lunch ride and a long meandering ride back home with a few friends. 110 miles of enjoyment that it wasn't 95 degrees lol.

Serviced the Trike ,after our 5300 mile ride. Now if I can get some energy, I need to give it a bath.

Been working with Avon on the AV 91 hum .... I can't figure out if it is coming and going, or, it's always there and some times I just don't notice it.

Avon has "hinted" that maybe varying the rear pressures would resolve it. I guess this is possible, I've seen stranger things and I did put on all three at the same time.

I was running 24# in the new Good Year Comfort Treads, and have now tried 26#, 28#, 30# and it seems to be getting worse. I will next try lowering it to 22# and see if the converse holds true to form.

I have the Bolt Battery Jumper with a compressor built in, so, I just pull over somewhere safe, adjust the pressures and go back to testing riding.

I need to take Mom to her final Doc appointment, and I have an appointment with the same doc for a different issue, so not sure how much I'll get to do today.

I got out on a good 250 mile loop yesterday from S. IL. along the Mississippi River up to Louisiana, MO and back on the secondary country roads. Coming out of MO into IL halfway between the river and Atlas, I noticed a moving van with a string of cars behind it oncoming traffic. Something in my mind clicked "be careful" and sure as heck, some knucklehead pulled out around that UHaul and blasted by it in my lane. We were all 3 abreast. Luckily, there was a good shoulder for me to pull over on and I anticipated somebody was going to do that. Training and experience just took over and served me well. I took it all in stride. I always drive with my high beams and passing lamps on during the day plus extra lights on the engine guards, so there should have been no reason for that joker not to have seen me. Still... Be careful out there boys and girls. If it can happen, it probably will.

You're right about that! After over a month of days with the high's about 95, this last week was really nice.

Dwayne and I did some heat test runs the other day and it was only 83-86 F during the runs. We have more lined up this coming week where it will be back at 95 F the first part of the week.

and removed the left heat shield. I went and helped an elderly couple repair their deck this morning, so their dogs could use it to go outside to do their business ... I was pretty tired and sweaty when I got back. So, didn't have the pizzaz to test it ... Kira and I will do that tomorrow. The hardest part was figuring out how to tie up all the wires it hid ... me and tricity just don't get along.

Left home about 8:30 am for a little Sunday morning ride to downtown Memphis. Sunday is quiet and laid back in the downtown area. No work day traffic, most businesses are closed this early and tourists are recovering from Saturday night on Beale Street. Quite naturally we wound up at our favorite restaurant for breakfast . . . the world famous Arcade Restaurant - https://arcaderestaurant.com/history/

It's been featured in many movies as you may know.

And it was frequented by none other than Elvis Presley. In fact Elvis was there this morning and stopped by to say 'hello.'

Default Rough Day for the Fat Bottom Girl

Took Kira for an early morning ride. Mostly to continue testing tire pressures. Anyway, We pulled into a dirt and gravel area off I70 and I made a minor adjustment to the front tire pressure.

When we started to pull out, I heard a "KLUNK", never a good sound on a Harley (don't hate me for speaking the truth). I stopped and looked and the right passenger floorboard and highway peg was laying in the gravel.

Kira was barking at it, so, I picked it up and put it in the tour pak, thinking the bolt had just wiggled loose. I was lucky it came off right there, could of been exciting at 75 mph, damaged fender or worse.

We finished our ride and headed home. Kira took her place in her dog run and I looked for another bolt. No Joy. Then I noticed part of the bolt was still in the hole ... not good, it's a grade 8 bolt.

So, broke out the drill, bits and the easy outs. I got really lucky. While drilling, the drill wandered a bit. Just barely got through the broken piece without touching the threads.

The dang thing really did not want to come out. My biggest fear was the easy out would break off in the hole. I was just about ready to remove the easy out and drill the hole larger for a bigger easy out (this of course would have probably damaged the threads in the frame), when it started to move. I finally got it out.

Next trick was getting the easy out, out of the broken bolt, again, lucky, it came right out.

Kira and I got back on the trike and headed for the HD dealer. Picked up two new bolts for the Passenger mounts. Figured it wouldn't be bad to replace both sides. While putting the passenger mount on, I decided on just putting the CVO Adjustable passenger mount on without the Kuryakyn highway pegs. Right side was easy, it was off so no problems.

The left side however was not so easy. I had to remove the relocated oil filter bracket (I just laid it on the ground, enough play to do that) to get to the highway pegs off, because you can't get to the mounting bolt while the highway pegs are on. Finally got the mount off, and put the new bolt in.

On both sides I chased the threads with a 3/8 16 Tap just to clean out old lock tite. I gotta admit, I like the cleaner look without the highway pegs and since my co rider can't reach the boards anyway, figured why bother.

Next I wanted to take off the arm rests, the pet palace just doesn't fit right with them on. Should of quit while I was ahead. One of the bolts holding the armrests to the mounting plates broke. Luckily, it broke right where it goes into the arm, so the arm came out of the mount. I was able to drill it out, and while drilling, it screwed itself through the arm.

So Kira and I got back on the trike and headed to fastenall to get some 1" 1/4x20 SS screws, ya know, incase I put them one again.

Lots of bad things happened, but, alls well that ends well.

You got very lucky getting that one bolt out. Can I suggest antisieze on the threads instead of loctite. It will be easier on the threads. I have been using loctite for many years on parts like that, I see the rust in the pics, ALL my baggers rusted that way. I used some black spray epoxy in those holes

If you are using a lock washer on those bolts, a bit of antisieze on both sides of the lock washer will help from breaking the bolt at the head, this is where the threads first start to twist

The new bolts from HD come with loctite preloaded on them. At a future date, soon, I plan to take them off again and clean those holes ... touch up the paint and put plastic caps over them ... probably a winter project.

Forgot pics without the highway pegs.
