    Default What size trailer?

I've got a nice 7 x 14 but it isn't big enough to load the TG and any other bike I own.

Would like to be able to load a TG and a bagger, maybe the TG and two baggers.

Question is. What size trailer do you guys use for this purpose? This will be a draw trailer not a fifth wheel.

Done it several times with a 7X16 Wiz. Trike goes in backwards all the way up front and on the far left side of the trailer. Bagger goes in on the right side with plenty of room to spare. I currently have a v-nose, but works the same with a regular 16' trailer too. So anything larger than 7X16 will work fine. Under 16' won't.

Good to know. My 7 x 14 is only 6' 8 wide and 12' 4" deep but it was sold as a 7 x 14 because its on a 14 frame. Arguing was futile but it fits two baggers fine, just not a TG and anything else.

Wiz, I think you need an 18 foot trailer to do this and not be banging stuff together. That could be a regular 18 footer or a 16 foot with a Vee nose that adds a couple of feet. I have some experience with a Doolittle Cargo Master which is a 16 with the Vee that ends up being 18' 2" from the door to the Vee. We put the trike in front with the front tire in the Vee and the baggers in the back.

If you don't have at least a 3/4 ton truck you will likely need a weight distribution hitch and on some Vee nose trailers those are nearly impossible to put on properly. Been down that road.

I hear ya.. I have a 2013 1500 Ram Longhorn Limited Hemi 4x4. Will pull 10,000 but it also has the air suspension ride. It's self leveling. If you overload the air ride it locks in safety mode so there's a second issue. Got the pony's and can get the equalizer hitch (if the tongue has enough room) but that air suspension may kill it all.

You guys are correct. A V nose does create a problem using a weight distributing set up.

Yep, my 7X12 with Vee nose won't allow the dist. hitch.

Also you have to watch the vee nose floor. Some ttrailers, like mine, the vee nose part of the floor is raised
about 2 1/2 inches higher than the rest of the floor.

So one would have to make a ramp to get the front tire up there.

I put a battery outside, between the tounge jack and the vee nose. Then mounted a winch inside on the vee nose floor.

Just hav'nt built the shelve over it yet.

    Later, eighty80.

P.S> open heart went good, will be ridin again next spring.!!

I had a 2010 Ram without the air ride and it sure did the job, but I went crazy and bought a 2012 3/4 with the diesel. There must be a way to get around that air ride problem, are you sure it doesn't go into a different mode when you engage the tow mode?

FWIW I pulled that Doolittle trailer from here to TX 2 years ago with the 2010 Hemi and the TG in it and got a whopping 7.7 mpg. That was the 1st and I hope the last time I ever trailer the TG. In fact I sold that trailer to my neighbor so I'm not even tempted to do it again.

I need to do more reading on the air ride. It won't limit the 10,000 + lb payload but it may limit the tongue load. I was thinking it said 600 lbs tongue load but not really sure.

As long as I keep the down force lighter than the air ride limits I can pull it.

I will read it again to be sure.

Hey Wiz I just pulled my R.K./M.T. and a Fatboy with bags and highway bars on a 14 X 6'2" trailer NY. to SC. and back no prob. Loaded FB first front left corner then trike facing forward favoring right side. Pulled well as FB was enough tongue weight. Nothing touched nothing scratched. If you do decide on something over 14' I would suggest dual axle with electric brakes

Thanks... I have a 7 x 14 dual axle enclosed / elec brakes. Can't fit anything but the TG in there or two baggers. No way to get another bike inside with the TG loaded.

Wiz, I decided years ago that when I bought 'MY' enclosed trailer that it was going to be bigger than just big enough for what I would use it for the most. I found a great deal on a 28x8.5ft tandem axle v-nose and haven't looked back since. I know some will say it's way too big, BUT the best thing, besides the room, is that I control the tongue weight by the placement of what I'm loading, not the size forcing the placement. I have used it for so many things because of the size and 'because' of the size, very very few have asked to use it and I call that a big plus.
