Has anyone had a CB installed on their Trike?
I just bought a TG and of course there is no CB - it's extra. The dealer said besides the CB unit, I will also need the antenna, PTT switch and cable extension for a total of almost $500 plus $450 for labor.
My question is, are any of those items included in the base unit?
What good is the CB without all these extras?

I thought I read somewhere that someone called Harley and they said the antenna is suppose to be included with the CB unit, but didn't say anything about the other stuff.

The P&A catalog is misleading - it just lists the CB assembly with no mention of needing all these extras.

I can't believe you have to pay an additional $1000 for a item that has been standard on all Ultras for years.

That is one thing that roast my chestnuts, Harley needs to realize the Triglide isn't a Streetglide where people will pay more for less.

Msocko, what do you mean Harley needs to realize people won't pay more for less. Everyone that buys the cb, and all the extras, does. Why give everything away when they will pay extra for it. Just my .02

Gary, did you sell your old trike or trade?

Yeah, I agree, but it was never free! You didn't get the GPS before, & people had no problem buying that for around $800-$900. It needs to be set as a standard part, then if you don't want it discount & remove it. They could then sell them as such. Very few would let it go.
You can use the GPS out of your car just fine. They know that, But you don't want a CB sitting on your fuel tank, they know that also.
Bottom line is the most in their pocket. All the input for the likes & wants for next years motor goes to a list for what they can sell as extras. Not what is needed. Unless the bean counters can get a positive cash flow out of it you will never see it !

I had a CB added to mine... Paid for the CB module and antenna and labor to install. The service folks did not notice it did not have a PTT switch (they said the other ones that had come in had them). They delivered it and had to come back and pick it up the next day (dead cell in the battery) and needed the PTT to use the CB. Put a new battery in and after waiting several days trying to get the PTT switch they changed all my switches for lighted switches (neat at night) as a, "make it good" for the customer. They also matched the antennas so both are the same size. I wish the CB were part of the stock package, but I am happy with how my dealership worked to make it right. (Dealer is Thunder Tower in Columbia, SC). I am also happy with the overall deal I got. Good folks there in sales and service.
Now I am ready to try and find sometime to ride.

I had to take a second look, I see I said pay more for less not "won't pay more for less". IMO I won't pay more for less, the Triglide is right up there in price with some of their CVO models which means it should come with all the bells and whistles. Doing a CB delete is one of the dumbest things they could do on a machine which is built for touring.

Face it... The reason Harley now makes the CB optional is because the Triglide is selling well and they know folks will buy it anyway. It is called plain and simple GREED. I gave up on them being concerned about their customers years ago.

Sloufoot, you're right. Seems like a trade off - CB for the GPS. I would have prefered the CB, because I could use my Existing Zumo. I'm still not sure how I'm going to like this HK GPS system - I'm so use to the Garmin display.

The CB handset plug is still on the tank so they didn't clean that up.

Triken, I traded my '12 TG.

I noticed I didn't have the PTT switch, but I thought the big deal from Harley was the ability to give the radio/cell phone voice commands - how can you do that without the PTT switch??
Also, my salesman told me the buttons on the handlebars light up. Mine do not light up. Is THAT suppose to be an OPTION too??
Boy, am I learning about stuff I thought I was getting, but was wrong. :)

They even brag about the new Infotainment center and radio, but don't tell you you have to buy the $999 upgrade speaker/amp package to take advantage of it.

OH well, no use crying over spilt milk. Spend the money and make it the way I want. :gah:

That's wrong!!!! The length of the CB antenna is determined by tuning the SWR, which basically means matching the antenna to the CB radio. It would be purely coincidental if the CB antenna ended up the same length as the AM/FM antenna.
I have had CB's on my Wings and My Harley's since 2000. Have yet to have one not need the SWR tuned and BTY the shortened antennas on the newer HD's are not worth spit for transmitting distance!!!!!!
My Wing/Hannigan has a Tx distance of 2 miles up to 6 miles, depending on surrounding terrain and the atmospheric conditions.
HD, I believe, took the hint on extra $$'s for the CB from Mother Honda. The CB was standard on the 1500SE Wings and became an approx. $800 option + installation on the 1800 Wings.
BikeMP3 has developed a better lower cost CB for the Wing. Maybe the HD owners should petition Pete @ BikeMP3 to develope one for the HD!

I HATE! HATE! HATE! the H-D GPS unit. I wish they'd leave the CB and made the GPS as an extra cost option. I've taken 2 long vacations so far and thank God I was able to attach my Zumo660 to the gas lid as a back up - it turned out to be the main GPS throughout the trips.
The H-D GPS is a big POS - in my opinion.

The dealer also told me I can't install the amp because the CB unit is in the same place that the amp goes. I think that's BS, because a couple members have said they had their dealer install both with no problems. Also wish they'd have left the AUX. input.

So far the "Infotainment" unit has froze up twice on me - very frustrating.......couldn't turn it off - it just stayed on - none of the buttons worked - it just sat there getting hotter by the minute......only after coming home and turning the bike off did the unit turn off.

Did I mention that the H-D GPS is a POS?

Does anyone have a step by step direction on how to save multiple addresses, or even just one, to the GPS?? It takes me almost 5 to 10 minutes to save one address. Half the time I can't get it to acknowledge the address number of where I want to go.
One time a certain sequence will work and then the next address it doesn't.
Even though I'm a bit "computer challenged" I can still operate a gps unit like the Garmin Zumo with no problems at all.

I think the "Infotainment" unit is the worst thing Harley has ever done.

The infotainment unit's GPS on the new Harley's did take some getting used to and I'm a techy/nerd... DBA to boot. I also had the HD Garmin Nuvi prior to the 2014 trike so like you I was a bit frustrated... at first. Now that I've taken it on a lot of trips, I finally get it So I can help.

On the infotainment freezing up, I had mine in a few times and after another call to Harley Tech here is their explaination: Its a computer. Like all computers, it needs time to startup... and shutdown ... so we need to be patient and let it do its thing before hitting the start button. So, here's what I now do. I turn on the ignition, let the infotainment fireup until it gets to the "agree" screen, then I hit the start button. So far, that's worked and I haven't had any more lockups, blackouts, or blank screens on it.

On the GPS, if you want to save multiple waypoints, you have to enter in the final destination first, then go backwards. So enter next to last destination, then the 3rd from last destination until you get to your first waypoint you want to go.

to enter an address, you have to enter the state first, then city, then street, then number. once you enter that, when its calculating, theres a little text box icon press it, select "saved", then when it finishes, you can select "save" and it'll let you type a name in.

its still quirky occasionally, but they do have updates they are continually making so make sure you download them to your infotainment unit.
