    Default Advice on Purchasing a 2000 GL1500/Lehman

    Hi everybody. I'm looking for a little advice like you gave my on my other thread "Can Anybody ID This Conversion?"

    While talking with the owner of that trike, I was also talking to the owner of a 2000 GL1500 that was converted when new. The current owner is the 2nd owner. He purchase it at 4,000 miles, currently it has 16,400. Both owners were snowbirds who kept the trike stored in their southern home when they headed north, so most of it's life was spent in garages.

    Owner says it's like new. He felt some vibration when he bought it so he had the U joints changed and the drive shaft balanced. He also thought it hesitated so he had the carb(s) cleaned. No problems reported now. Oil & filter has 500 miles, the tires are 2 years old.

    Is there anything I need to look out for with this year/model. It does have a reverse, cassette player, cruise, intercom, hitch and a cover. It doesn't have a CB.

    As said in your other thread by someone, if agreed on price and before money & Title change hands, ask the Seller to meet you at a competent reputable Trike Installer (if you can, Crossroads Trike in Salt Lake is an EXCELLENT One-ask for Ben) for an Inspection prior to sale. As suggested, if passes-You pay for the review and Buy it. If not-Seller pays and go from there. That way you know for sure and have Peace of Mind from a qualified uninterested un-bias Third Party.
    On the surface, SOUNDS like a good Trike. Now, time to confirm that what Sounds good-IS good.

    You refer to the owners as SNOW BIRDS, is this a Canadian Honda with a KPH speedometer ?

    Good question, I never thought to ask. He is from Canada, but the trike has always been left in the US. He bought it used here. If it is a Canadian Honda is that a problem?

    I asked him to send me photos of the controls, as it's a few hundred miles away.

    IMHO the 2000 was the best Wing. 12 years of perfection.
    I may have missed it asking price and trike kit.
    Ok went back missed it in the subject line. Excellent kit. Also if you take it for a ride that will tell you a lot. The 1500 is pretty much bullet proof. At less than 20,000 miles it is still in the breaking in period. They break in about 45,000. Under $18,000 it is a steal. What is the address and phone # I can't quite read it on the for sale sign<LOL >
    I did notice no CB radio and no add on of any kind.
    No extra bling. I reduce my est to $17,000
    When I am gona fix something I will fix it. You don't have to bug me every 6 months.

    The seller just emailed me and said he didn't want to sell it after all. They are going to keep it in storage while they are gone....:-(

    Only problem I can see with it is that it is not white.To some people,red is always going too fast,even if it is parked in a parking lot.hehe

    My brother told me of a Lehman for sale in St George. It might still be available.

    I've been told the Canadians leave them here because trikes are not street legal in Canada. Is that true??

    Although not an expert on the Canadian laws, I believe the Canadian trikes are required to have an emergency brake. Unlike in the States where they are optional. I also looked at a Lehman awhile back. It was a '99 with less than 7000 on it. I already had a '99 Gl1500 SE Champion conversion with a lot more miles so I thought I would start with a basically new bike. What held me back is that there are no replacement parts available for the 1500. I decided that if someone hit me it could be a problem or if the ground effects got damaged. Ended up with a 2010 Level 3 with 2910 miles on it which I had converted to an independent suspension CSC. Beats my Champion hands down,
