Default Wind buffeting over 65 MPH

I get helmet wind buffeting in high speeds on the highways, over 65 mph. Wind shield is in the highest position. I am 6' tall. Any suggestions? Thx!!

I am also 6' tall with 32" inseam. Try lowering your wind shield down a couple of notches. It worked for me.

Also your helmet can be a problem. Especially if it is loose fitting.

Good Luck...... Hope you find the sweet spot!

It's been so long since I've had the buffeting issue that I don't remember exactly what it felt like. I remember the cure was to get rid of the stock Honda windshield. I went to a "Cee Bailey's" shield and loved it. When time came to replace that one (pitted pretty bad) I went with an "F4 Custom" and that is the shield I have today.

I ride with the shield in the full down position most of the time but occasionally I will pull it up. Very small differences in shield design make HUGE differences in buffing. I highly recommend both aftermarket shields I used. The F4 is by far the most durable. I now have over 100,000 miles on mine. It's showing usage but still has some time left.

Question Re: Wind buffeting over 65 MPG

I've never gone over 65 mph. That has always been my top speed.

Don't know if that makes me a Wuz, a scardy cat, or just a plain old man who shouldn't be on the highways,,,.

I am with you too! never go over 70mph. Really don't need too. I believe it's called-"Safe Driving".
don't want to be another driver I usually call "Idiot!" going down the road,,,,
I also want to enjoy riding my "Putt" until I can't swing my leg over the seat. It's bad enough that I gotta work out so I can manage driving it without coming home all sore etc.............

If it is a half helmet, is there a sun visor on it? That's usually good for catching the wind with me. I am 6'1".

Cool Re: Wind buffeting over 65 MPG

It seems there is little difference on cabin comfort between the 2 and 3-wheeled versions of the GL1800. That being said,...
My trike conversion is 3-4 months away, but on my '04 GL1800, I have minimal buffeting with a V-Stream shield and SAENG.com 'Micro-Swirl™| Gen-4 Edging'. The screen and edging act to raise the buffeting point. I'm short, so I look through the shield in the top position and have found in wet riding (nearly never happens in N.W. Oregon) no rain from the screen comes over the lip to make it look like I've got a bladder condition! Pilon says she too has less buffeting with this combination (Happy wife, happy life). Performs well at speeds somewhat in excess of 65 MPH as well, or in overtaking or facing oncoming big rigs at speed. The screen will flex and dance, but I have a calm cabin around me. I have 'Show Chrome' upper Wind deflectors (courtesy of the PO), lower fairing deflectors and case-guard mounted deflectors (by me) and find the combination fantastic additions for cabin comfort. The only 'annoying' area is the space between the mirrors, windscreen and top of the upper deflectors. I will design and fabricate those after the TRIKE is done. (Going in for rotator cuff surgery 7 January., so I'll be behind on some of my projects,... ).

I hope this helps; I've tried to re-do my ride for as much creature comfort as I can. eg. 'camping' is done at motels/hotels, if you know what I mean,... Any other ideas to help the cabin area are greatly appreciated.

ps, I love the V-Stream! I would not hesitate in spending the extra $ on their super slick coated screen. Even using Lemon Pledge, heavy fog or drizzle is annoying. Might just get some of the peal and stick variety of 'Micro-Swirl' and lay it across the bottom of the screen to drive the water droplets off,...

I rode my trike almost 500 miles home the day I bought it. Got beat almost to death with the wind. First thing I ordered was a big windshield. It fixed it.

The F4 +4 fixed my buffeting issues. Especially out West where the speed limit is 80mph! You go slower the truckers will give you fits.

I thought 80 MPH was idle speed for you.

I'm 5'11". ride with either an N43 Nolan or an N90 Nolan and I've not had any buffeting on the wing. I'd check your helment style/fit and the windshield height adjustment. A loose fitting lid or one with a "visor" might cause a lot of problems.

My BOB was having problems with neck pain because of buffeting. Our fix was to get lighter helmets, add hand wings and trike wings. We rode over 1300 miles last week with no problems. I think my next upgrade is going to be the F4+4 wind shield and Baker air wings.
The GW owners manual says not to use the cruise control at speeds over 100mph. So I take that as any speed up to and including 100 is cruising. Over 100 is where the fun starts.

To answer the original question, I have always liked Slipstream Windshields. I hate the stock which is poor quality with that bug catcher wind vent. The Slipstream is a little wider and larger and helps with wind. It is also twice as thick as the OEM windshield. You get get them up to 4 inches higher but I've never needed that but I am only 5'11'. I usually run a little less than the speed limit no matter where I am, so wind sometimes is a factor but often isn't. Also the Slipstream is made of a different material which holds up really well.

windwings.net is one of the only companies that has been designing after market windshields for 20 years plus. They are 6 inches higher and 4 inches wider with a unbreakable product that has a scratch resistant coating on it

I did the same thing and nearly had 2 accidents by not being able to see over the windshield. One time it fogged over and the morning sun made it impossible to see thru and I couldn't see over. Nearly hit a parked car trying to look around the windshield. The other time it got covered by mud on hwy from trucks pulling out of sugar cane fields in S. Florida. I almost didn't see the bike in front of me slowing down. I decided then I'd rather put up with buffeting than have a crash. I'm only 5'6" and can look over stock size windshield if I raise up a little, but normally see out of the top 1" of windshield. I'm due for a new windshield soon and from past experiences it will be an F4. There about twice the price but worth it.
