Default improvements on the 2014 triglide

riding and enjoying 25k miles on my 2011 triglide. over time I changed the exhaust to v&h header, basonia mufflers, stage one ac, tts tuner. it helped the performance and the heat problems, but wasn't quite satisfied. I listened to the hype on the 2014 triglides, traded the 11 on a 14 in December. I have been in flordia this month and been able to ride over 500 miles. I feel they have made great strides in the heat problems. the 14 seems to have better roll on torque at lower rpms. The gps is great along with sound system. The Bluetooth works good just answer and let you passenger talk. I'm riding the 14 stock except for rear bumper, mirrows, and street pegs and I'm thinking I will like the performance and ride better than the 11 with the upgrades.

Congratulations on your new ride! I'm swapping my 11 for a 14 within the next couple months.

The only thing that upset me was having to spend hundreds of dollars to get the CB.
It use to be standard on every earlier Ultra. I think it's even standard on the Limited-not positve on that though. Oh well, I guess the GPS takes the place of it. Even though I think most buyers already have a great Garmin Zumo that they could have brought over. Can't wait to actually get out and ride it. I only have 129 miles on it, but the weather has been so bad since I bought it. Loved my 2012 TG.

Bought a lot of P&A stuff for it and they just came in. Saddlebags(can't live without them), CB set up, speaker/amp upgrade, bumper, heated grips, taller windshield, windshield pouch, luggage rack, lid organizer and a few others.

    GARYD,

You mention a lot of add-ons for your TG above. I can "picture" all of it except the saddlebags [where do they go?] and luggage rack. Would appreciate it if you could send links to these two items.

    Thanks,

    That's them.
Never had a dresser with out the luggage rack - very handy for carrying large items.

Thanks for the links! I will definitely add the luggage rack.

However I have some questions about the saddle bags. For the price [$420] they don't seem to add much additional storage space. I would agree they are in a handy location for small items. Also, how are they attached?

    I'm interested in your thoughts . . . .

Like I said, I wouldn't be without them and I ride solo. Two up and I think they are a necessity.

When I travel and have stuff bungied on the luggage rack, it's a PITA to open the lid and try and find a camera, extra bottle of water, snack bar, sunscreen, lip balm, windshield cleaner, fuel log, CD's, disk lock etc. etc. All of which I carry in mine. And now that there is no storage in the lower fairings, they become more important.
I also use to put my heated clothing controller in the left side one until I bought the wireless controller. And they act as a paint protector for that area. LOL

Yes, thare a little too expensive in my mind, but the convienence more then makes up for it. I do get a 20% discount from my dealer so it's not too bad.

There's two posts on the bottom and a quick disconnect post on top with a fastener like the saddlebags on the 2 wheelers. Three holes need to be drilled in the body.

One thing if you do buy them - make sure the dealer installs then correctly. My dealer didn't do a very good job on mine. Went round and round with them to fix them. According to the dealer they followed the instructions, but I think someone screwed up writing those instruction. The next pair I will make it known about installing them parallel with the fenders. The first ones were crooked. Good Luck

I have been thinking about the saddle bags also. Has anyone got thoughts about the Velcro system for installing them from SeeThroughBraz kit ? I am having real trouble thinking about drilling into my new trike.

the heat may make them come off when it gets hot..The glue gets hot and softens up

I installed them on my 12 triglide using the Seethroughbraz kit. They stay on just fine and I live in the Texas heat.

That's exactly what happened to me with the tour-pac lid organizer. I tried every type of 3M double back tape - even heavy duty indoor/outdoor type. I cleaned the area with alcohol and even clamped the organizer to the lid for 24 hours - it still fell down in the heat. Now I put the luggage rack mounting holes through the organizer and bolt them together = problem solved.
I even tried holding my CB mike to the gas lid cover - same thing - detached when I pulled the mike off due to the heat.

I will never trust any tape to hold anything of value, like a camera or mp3 player or even a bottle of water or disk locks - and don't want to lose one of those expensive bags.

I'm just not going to take a chance. Nothing wrong with holes in the plastic - there are lots of holes in other places with no problems....3 more won't make any differnce. And I have complete piece of mind.
Probably nothing wrong with those other tape on bags, but with my experiences, I'm not taking any chances with tape.

After I posted my questions yesterday I went to the H-D website, looked at the pics, then went to our local dealer and bought both the saddle bags and the luggage rack for my 2014 TG.

They had the bags in stock, had to order the rack.

Thanks for the heads-up on the installation instructions. I briefly looked at them yesterday and plan to install the bags today. I own a machine shop and am a fanatic about "accuracy" so will be sure to get them on properly.

Don't worry about drilling holes in the body - just look at all the holes that are already drilled in it.
I've told the dealer if he can't guarantee me that the bags will be installed correctly - per my acceptance - then don't do it, I'll find another dealer who can or I'll do them myself.
Also told them to check the bags on my trade in, which they still have in the warehouse, and DON'T do it that way again.
I have seen TG's with the bags both ways - correctly and crooked. I hope enough owners complained about the crooked ones - so maybe the MOCO will revise the instruction - if they haven't already done so. I don't understand why some dealers do it right and some don't.
Oh well, I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

I installed my own. I can see where someone less careful could really screw-up the installation. The paper template that came with it is "folded" in the packaging. When opening it up, if you don't remove the creases it will not lay flat and in the proper position.

The two lower holes are relatively close to each other relative to the height of the bag. This means that a small error in placement of the lower mounts results in a major 'tilt' of the bag.

The center-to-center distance of the two lower mounts on one of the 2 bags was slightly different than the c-c as indicated on the pattern. This was due to the natural variation expected during the assembly of any mechanical thing. If this wasn't noted before drilling, then you'd have to bring out the rat tail file and move a hole. NOT acceptable.

Properly installed, the H-D Trike bags look nice and are very handy. My only minor complaint is that they are pretty pricey for what you get. But hey, what isn't overpriced with H-D embossed on it? <g><g></g></g>

Some just follow directions, no matter if there wrong , And then some look and see they're wrong and just use the directions to wipe their windshields, [ie, measure twice cut once]

And then go' do it the right way...

Got a question for anyone running these bags...

How does it affect the airflow for the passenger. Without the bags, the air hits that flat spot between the bike and the tire fender and a lot of it goes right up the side of the passenger. When it is hot out, this air is even warmer since it went past the engine. I'm thinking the bags might re-route some/all of that air over the top of the bags instead of up the side of the passengers legs and torso.
