Thanks for the information. I will have to look into the package deals. Since we will probably never go again we want to make sure we have a nice place this time and if we can get it cheaper than their published rate that will be a bonus.

Hello. The Oak is nice but make sure you look at the Tower section not the cheaper area that looks like a Motel. We had a corner room with a Jacuzzi and it was $160 a few years ago. The shuttle for Remington's picks you up at the lobby. I recommend the Maid of the Mist, the walk behind the falls and if you like water and speed the jet boats at Niagara on the Lake. Stay away from all the very expensive museums that are on the main drag as they are not worth it. Check out the light show at night. The drive from Niagara to Niagara on the Lake is very nice. If it is something that you like, check out the Adam Beck Power station as for a cost you can go right down into the generating area.

Have fun. Niagara was a weekend getaway as a teenager so I was familiar with the area but if you have never been it is very nice. We always had to take relatives to Niagara and the CN Tower in Toronto.

Also lots of wineries. Jackson Triggs is a nice one as for free you walk through from the grape field to the processing area and then they teach you how to drink wine, not a wine drinker but it made the wine taste better. You can sit out on the patio and order food and wine. They even have summer concerts. It is on the way to Niagara on the Lake.

Only 10 weeks away! Still looking for suggestions of things to see and do in Ohio, Indiana, Pennsylvania, West Virgina and Kentucky on our way to and from. If anyone has any suggestions we would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks in advance,

Mike

I just returned from a trip to the falls last month, stayed on the American side on Grand Island (whole house rental). Went to the Canadian side to visit Fort George and the falls, rode on the new Hornblower cruise (highly recommended). Some great little restaurants in Niagara on the Lake. Also took the cruise up and down the Erie Canal in Lockport, NY. This is a NOT TO BE MISSED in my opinion.

If you make it to Grand Island, NY be sure and eat at a restaurant called Dick and Jenny's Bake and Brew - best meal I had on the entire trip.

I had been to the falls about 40 years ago but only visited the American side, the Canadian side is sooooo very much better.

Have a great time.

Thanks thumper, I didn't know about the Erie Canal Cruise. How much time did you spend in the Niagara Falls area? We have 2 weeks to make the trip but we don't cover a lot of miles each day, like to stop and see stuff along the way. It's the first time in my life I've been up that way so probably quite a bit to see!

We were just at the falls on the US side a couple weeks ago. Too bad the area directly around the falls has turned into a flea market & beggars paradise. What a dump. We were there several years ago and it wasn't that bad. I'd rather take a barrel ride over the falls...Never again!

I heard the Canadian side is better, sure hope so.

Highway 20

I'm wondering how highway 20 or 5 is from the Cleveland area to Buffalo? Would either be a decent alternative to 90 which turns into a toll road at the New York line I believe. I would prefer to stay off of 90 if possible and be able to see some sites but not be traveling at 30 mph the entire time. Never been in the area so any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Mike

I think we will enjoy it. We are planning on staying on the Canadian side too. Which hotel did you stay at? Did you do the WEGO bus to get around?

Comfort Inn Lundy's Ln. It is west of downtown. Indoor Pool. IHOP in same building. Yes we used the WEGO. Loved that also. Took it everywhere they went. Twice, just like our own tour bus. We choose that place because it included parking. Most of the in closer places charge extra for parking. With 2 trikes that would of been expensive. Bus ride was only about 20 to 30 to downtown.

One week and then we're off. Front fork seals decided to start leaking, a friend and I replaced them today. Alternator went south, got the old one out and a new one on the way. Sure hope it gets better!
