Question When is to many Lights too much?

So, when is to many Lights too much? I have seen a lot of Trike's and a lot of GW's covered in lights. Some look outstanding and some look like over kill. Back a few years ago LED's weren't around or as accessible as they are now. In earlier years you had to worry about to many lights vs. your charging system, and lord don't leave your ignition on too long without starting your bike or you could have a dead battery pretty quick. With the advancement of LED's you see people leaving their LED's on for quit some time with no threat of killing the battery. I wired all my LED's into a separate switch that is wired into a small 12 volt battery from a dirt bike. It is wired to my main battery thru a 30 amp relay which is wire to my ignition switch. So when my bike is just sitting in the dark I can leave my LED's (running off dirt bike battery ), and then when I start my trike it is charging the dirt bike battery as well as running my LED's ( and it is also charging my main battery ). I have been able to leave my LED's on for well over six hours with no effects to my main battery. Here are a few pic's of my Trike with the LED's on and a few pic's with all of my lights on.

684 LEDs draw less then six amps of current. NOT A PROBLEM !!

IMO I like to keep it simple, the more added wiring circuits just means more to go wrong while on the road. A friend of mine who works in a shop which gets a lot of multi brand business has had metric, mainly Goldwing owners come in with all sorts of electrical gremlins. Normally the end result is they need to strip out many feet of owner added wring to get to the root cause. He has seen Wings come in just bristling with added switches and lights that keep blowing fuses.

Thumbs up Re: When is to many Lights too much?

Some nice Bikes out there so far, LED's are great (try running 600+ bulbs = Dead Battery). I try to keep my wiring simple and do not cut into any factory wiring harness. I also keep my wires separate and wrapped in their own wire loom, all connections are butt connectors with heat shrink. I can disconnect my lights from my bike by simply removing the two wires that go to my main battery. All wires both + and - go to the small dirt bike battery that I installed, nothing to the main battery or the frame. I went from the accessories on the fuse block to trigger the relay that charges the small dirt bike battery.

All of my lights are run off of a separate fuse box relayed off of the battery. I have 2 hot circuits and 4 switched off of the ignition. The main switchbox is on top of the right brake reservoir and I also have a hidden switch for cruise nights in the left glove box on the dash. Simple to work on and touble shoot.

My opinion, Too many lights is when they start annoying other riders, And that includes other bikers... Other than that have at it, Light them up.....

I'm not into the LED scene. Got enough on the rear that a blind driver would see that I'm stopping or turning, but nothing more than LED stop lights and tour-pac lights.

Like Rhino mentioned, you might have too many if it annoys other driver and/or riders. You see on coming traffic putting on sun glasses ya might have a tad too much.

I use a trailer isolater to power all of my lights.
that way NOTHING touches the bike wiring

The great thing about motorcycles is you can really make it your own.
I have lights to be seen. Trunk lights, under cylinder lights and I've changed out the reflectors on the front forks for LEDs.
For me, that's enough. Might be too much for some purists and not enough for the show guys.
