New Member looking for trike conversion for 1990 GL 1500 W/ 23K on the speedo

Found this site from another g/w site & looked like I could gain some info.

Been researching some conversion kits on the web (eg: moto trike,Roadsmith ,champion) & need some input from you gurus before I lay down the "stacks" ThumbUp

I have noticed a lot of the Honda Trikesters on this Forum seem to like the Roadsmith more so than others. but that is just my figures...:Coffee:

<b>This is just an opinion</b>... since no matter who you ask, their conversion is the "best". The major brands are all good products. Instead, I was more interested in the quality and location of the "Installer/Dealer". I found an outstanding installer only 18 mi. from me who did the installation in less than a week after the "kit" arrived at his shop.<br /><br /><br />
<br /><br /><br />
In my case, he happened to be a Motor Trike dealer. If he sold Roadsmith or some other quality brand, I would have purchased it, instead. So, plus or minus, <u>minor</u> variations in style or features, I recommend your emphasis be on the quality, integrity, knowledge, and location of the installer, and less on the specific brand. Any major brand should serve you well.<br /><br /><br />
<br /><br /><br />
I already had my 2-wheel GL1500 for many years and knew it to be in sound mechanical condition. My conversion (see sig pic below), was done about a year ago with 48 k mi.<br /><br />
<br /><br />
on it.<br />
<br />
It now has an additional 9,500 "trike miles" on it with no problems. Round numbers, with 7% NJ tax and a few extras, "drive-away" cost was about $14k.<br /><br /><br />
<br /><br /><br />
Hope this may be of some help.

Other opinions may vary... <img src="images/smilies/thumbup.gif" border="0" alt="" title="<img src="images/smilies/thumbup.gif" border="0" alt="" title="<img src="images/smilies/thumbup.gif" border="0" alt="" title="ThumbUp" class="inlineimg" />" class="inlineimg" />" class="inlineimg" />

Point well taken,I've had the same thoughts about the dealer & install. Will do some "boots on the ground" researching that aspect too . Gonna take some, has to clear the "war dept" before we have any movement ! <img src="images/smilies/wink.gif" border="0" alt="" title="Wink" class="inlineimg" />

In your opening post you mention you have a1990 Goldwing 1500. Is this the bike you are going trike? Be sure that you know that the kits you are looking at will fit a 1500. Most of the kits with the newer features are for 1800s. You may find it is better for you to find a used trike built on a newer platform.

Actually, I started focusing on older motorcycles about 25 yrs ago ( the 90 wing being my newest bike ) I like to do my own tinkering & repairs & stay active with the Lake Erie Chapter of the Antique Motorcycle Club of America.

I'm not into to much of this new hi-tech stuff where you need a laptop to dx.all your problems, the 1500 is about as advanced as I wanna get

There seems to be a fairly good selection of conv.kits avalible to suit my needs (champion,Motor trike & roadsmith) & curious to here others exp. with there 4500's

;);)

CSC also offers a kit for the 1500.

87Trike1200 gave you some great advise. As has been stated before, there are many "kits" to choose from but the number of qualified shops to "absolutely rely on" are few and far between. My '99 1500 with '01 CSC kit was already done when I found it. If I were to start over and look for a new one it would be based upon the dealer first and the kit second.<br />

Good luck in your search.
