rear tire on the front of the 1800. can you go wider?

Could anyone tell me if you can fit a wider tire on the front of the GL 1800 other than the 130/70/18.

I am about to convert a 1800 into a trike and would just love to have a 'fatter' tire up front.

Some one just may have done this already.

It's a real shame some tire manufacturer hasn't 'bitten the bullet' and put onto the market something suitable for trike front wheels. I fee certain the trade is there.

You just have to install a Hannigan kit and for an extra 3000.00 you can have the entire front end changed to run a wider tire. Just click on the Hannigan link on this page, dig out a stack or two of folding green from under the mattress and you're in business.

Or you could put a sidecar tire on the front / 3.50X18 Rated for 93mph @ 786# Approx.

Yes go with the Hannigan Trike for really wide tire 180/65, much longer lasting tire. You would be paying $995 is for the regular steer lite kit by itself anyway. For the additional $2000 you are getting a widened Steer Rite, wider custom wheel, New wider front fender, new 180/65 tire, and brake lines. The decision for the BMW was much easier. $1995 for modified Hossack front end, or $2995 for the new wide front end. They were having a special" free steer lite with kit offer" may be over, maybe not.

Put a BT45 on the front and use the money saved for gas to go ride!

Thanks for the replies . It really doesn't solve anything. I don't think I will splash out all that money for a hannigan front wheel conversion. That amount of dosh will pay for a lot of tires over the years.

The idea of the sidecar tyre seems good advice but I don't seem to have read anything about others using them on the forum before? I know there have been quite a number of discussions about this subject, most of which have ended up with the recommendation of using a rear tire in reverse!

I did have a trike ( three of them in fact) which had car tires on and although the turned is faster than a bike tired wheel ,used on a trike, they would really judder on tight bends if pushed. I was told that this would happen due to the flat surface of the tire as it is forced sideways. One side of the tire is forced to judder, to release the forces applied. It never happened on poor surfaced or wet roads so this just may have been the cause. I notice that Hannigan have stuck with round profile motor bike tires. That may be a wise choice.
The car tire lasted well over 30.000 miles!

I have a Eurowing Ultratech trike. They use a car tire on the front. I have put their front end on other trikes and sidecars

would you please tell us when you had cars on the front, what size, what brand and where you got them. Never was able to find a car tire that would fit!

I run a rear Battlax on my front. I feel it's more stable.
