got a camper trailer cheap

just bought this old camper trailer of a mate who has just bought a new one. its nothing flash, but its a really good easy to use design. a bargain for a few hundred dollars. the top of the camper is hinged at the rear end, so the top becomes the floor when you tilt it over. the bed is in the trailer itself and the tent erects itself as you tilt the top. there is also an annex which has poles inside the camper. the poles are in the tube across the front. also room for an esky. not sure if you use that term in the USA, but its a cooler box used with icepacks to keep food and drinks cool. it tows nicely behind the trike.

will post a few pics of it open in the next few days.

had a few dramas getting it home.

first attempt the trailer didnt fit the trikes tow ball, Our trailer hitches are metric.... second attempt with a new tow ball in hand we found out the ball wouldnt fit through the bracket it bolts to... third attempt got it hitched up and then remembered the trike has an American trailer socket, which wont fit the trailers plug. towed it home on backroads anyway. looks like its another trip to the auto parts store today to get a new socket..

in the background of the last picture you can see the trailer Elise and i towed around the USA. it will now have to have a new hitch and wiring harness to match the Aussie standards.

Looks like a Combi-Camp - haven't seen one for a long while in the States, don't believe they are available here anymore. A friend had one years ago, it got incinerated during a fire in his bike shed. He saved the bike but not the camper. He kept bedding made on the mattress and the gear in the trailer, He would strap a camp table, chairs and a port-a-potty to the rails on the top. He really liked it - he was set up and camping in about a minute.

yep thats what i like about it. you can have the bed made up before you go, it takes about 40 seconds to set the camper up... longer to fit the awning... and there is room on top of the bed when its closed down, for a couple of camp chairs and a fold out table. there is also 2 storage compartments along side the bed.<br />
the canvas is getting old and faded but it has just been waterproofed so in the unlikely event of rain we should be sweet. probably will get the canvas redone at some stage if we find we use it enough and like it. the canvas on the awning is like new as its never been used. its a lot brighter colour lol
