Hi everyone,

I installed Kuryakyn turndowns on my trike today. It looks good, but no change in the sound or performance. Who makes the best aftermarket exhaust for GL1800. I'd appreciate your recommendations and experiences

Thanks,
Michael

Do not mess with the exhaust on a gold wing 1800 or any gold wing several test through the years on several diffrent aftermarket exh.have shown they will lose horsepower and torque.
Also if you bike is still under warrenty and you have a major engine problem and a honda rep. sees the aftermarket exhaust there goes your warrenty.
I have seen it happen.Honda is very touchy about modifing any thing to do with the engine.

Exhaust turn downs are no different in concept than the chrome tips at K-Mart. They will not improve performance; and they won't increase the noise level measurably.

I have a friend that put Cobra Tri-Oval on his 2 wheel GW. Sounds a bit deeper and thraotier, but not all that much louder. Cobra also comes with round and scalloped tips. We are thinking about going with the scallop tip Cobras for the beefier sound without a lot more volume.
Link to Cobra's 1800 slip-on pipes: http://www.cobrausa.com/honda/gold_w...llettips/1213/
At Bikes, Blues & BBQ we talked to a guy from Horizion Trikes in Clarksville, AR. They, or someone around the shop does a straight-pipe conversion. Sounded pretty good, raspy and lower pitch. Seemed a bit loud for my tastes, as we tour with a Bunkhouse trailer, and I am not sure I would want that loud of an exhaust note bouncing back off the front of the camper for 700 miles.

Here's what I did to mine. Runs like a scalded dog and sounds like a Porsche. I've driven it 1000's of miles and no problems. No warrantee worries for my 06 and 12 RoadSmith.
Oh and did I mention it cost $100 at the local muffler shop?
There are no baffles and no mufflers on it, just 2 1/2" straight pipes and chrome tips. I wanted old school looks and sound. The pin striping is also old school.

Sure would like to hear those pipes Bet the is interesting. RIDE SAFE

Though not the same by any means.
Not a heck of a lot can be benefited from changing the exhaust on a flat 6.
I had a 1500 Valk before this 1800 with many different pipes on the 1500.
Best and what I ended up with on it when I sold it.
A 100% original new set of 1999 take off pipes.
In my opinion flat 6s just don't sound like a V twin or V8 and never will.
if your looking for a performance type exhaust.
Look into what the Subaru I think its a WTX owners are doing.
You may just end up with a fart can type note in any event.
Whatever it is that Motor Trike does isn't terrible but the drone does bug me at times.
Since the guys working on my bike didn't recognize what Ive got??
I cant help much there..........I believe I have 2 chambered mufflers. Is my best guess.
I wont take apart what isn't broken to find out.

I had Torque Loops and Vance & Hines Monster mufflers put on my 2008 GL1800. Seemed to add some power and made the exhaust so I can hear it. I'm satisfied.

I have ridden many miles behind SMSgt and at highway speed his bike is very pleasant,no loud obnoxious noise. In town his pipes are very mellow and again in the rest of the traffic noise, not noticeable. UNLESS he decides to grab a little throttle and then it growls very nicely. At the recent rally in Cedar City at least 2 other 1800s went down to the same shop that Kent used for his modification and had theirs changed and seemed very pleased with the sound/cost ratio.

I didn't do mine at the time because I didn't want to abandon my mufflers,I want to save them for maybe later use.

God to hear. They look awesome. May have to look into that. RIDE SAFE
