Dashboard gear indicator/no lights??

Just boght a 1995 GL1500 and am somewhat confused. My 1986 GL1200 Aspencade had an LCD display. it would show what gear I was in after each shift. I can't find any light on this 1500 dashboard that shows what gear I am in other than N and OD. Is there a light burned out, or is there NO indicator for the gears on the 1500??

Unfortunately, as far as I know, the 1200 was the only (at least the last) Wing with that handy feature built in to the dash. There are aftermarket gear indicators, but for what they are they can be very spendy. Most of the time folks never had one or if they did they just learn to do without.

I had one on a Kawasaki 1700.
It was right most of the time, but not always.
Got to where I never looked at it.

Interesting. I remember when I owned a couple of older wings (1984 & 1986) and they had gear indicators but the ones after that I didn't remember them having one. Now I have a '99 GW Trike and it has a nice one with a pop up LED indicator. Shows all gears by number and a dash (-) for neutral. Wonder who made mine? Thanks for the education ...

What do u call pricy. I saw them for $60.. There is a place to hook up a digital display under the right side lower cover, right behind the fog lights...

I sent an e mail. Does temp, volt and gear. Easy hook up. Price has gone up since we bought one 10 years ago. Still worth it

Hey John: I've seen them on eBay for $3.99 - $20 from China. I suppose they are guaranteed to be accurate 1/5 of the time.

You asked what pricy is: I would say when they get in the neighborhood of $100.
I was looking at the one from Air Rider you cited above, but $200 is a bit rich for me. The one from Daves Cycle Supply is still $150, and on the 1800 we have now there is already a temp indicator, and the voltmeter I installed was steep at $20. The gear indicator you saw for $60 isn't too bad of a price, though. As I noted, I think they are a handy feature. I am planning on installing one eventually, just got other priorities on the farkles list.

With my wing I drive like this. I shift until I see the light go on( OD) then I drive it till it drops down to 30 MPH ,down one gear. When tach hits 4,000 I shift up one. ( OD ) lights comes on. Repeat. Only use the other 3 gears if I have to stop.
