Default Has anyone heard of "Lightning Strike visibility system?

So, I've been rear-ended twice in the last year, last time the idiot laid 10 feet of rubber on the pavement before he hit me and did $11,00 worth of damage. I am also constantly getting cut off. Have any of you seen the new visibility system called " Lightning Strike? It's a made in the USA (made in Arizona) product that uses REALLY high intensity LED's (amber or white, if you are a LEO or Patriot Guard rider you can get red and/or blue) that you activate for a few seconds when you think a car is about to cut you off. They also have a license plate frame with red brake lights that flash for 2 seconds when the brake is applied. Check out their website [disclaimer i do Not profit from promoting their product,] I just REALLY think everyone should get them. Watch their video's on their website nod let me know. I am having some installed on my trike today, I'll post pic's when done. Www.getlightningstrike.com.

Looking forward to seeing your photos. From what I saw on the website, they look like a great safety option! I'd imagine that they would also have a handle bar mount for a GoldWing as well. Now whether the local and/or Virginia state police allow them is another question, but one that can easily be answered. Looks like a good product!

    HOLY CRAP!!!

I can't tell you how awesome is on. I put them on my trike yesterday and already had to use them twice to get peoples attention that were about to cut me off. If somebody can tell me how to attach a little video clip from my iPad (or I can email it to them and they can post it for me-which I would prefer). you guys should see these things in action [besides the videos on their webpage] why 126 views and only one reply? Come on guys you've got to have something to say.

It looks like a good idea but I am curious whether it's legal to have flashing lights. I didn't see anything about it on their web site. I suppose every state would be different. Just asking.

I was at a car show this morning and there was a police officer there who also stopped by. I had these Lightning Strike LEDs on my mind so I went over and described them to him asking if he thought they would be legal in Virginia. He said as long as they're not blue or red and they're also not on steady for long periods of time, he sees no reason why they couldn't be used. He also thought is was a good safety feature. Now he did say that I should also ask one of the State police as well, which I am going to do. But at this point, I'll say that a set of these will also be on my trike in the near future!

Whereas checking with your own local municipality as to what legal is advised, this is what the website says and they believe that it's a common law in most other states:

Arizona Revised Statutes 28-947, Paragraph D. These lights act as a safety feature similar to hazard lights on all vehicles. Since they do not automatically stay on and are only on when you are activating them with your toggle switch they are legal. Just use them as you would your horn when needed

Yeah, it's probably going to vary depending where a person lives. I'd check with the local authorities before I bought one.

Great idea, but expensive. I can think of ways to accomplish a bright flashing LED light for half the cost - but it will take some ingenuity on your part using "flash back" LED lights sold for automobiles and a light up switch with flasher. The key word here is ingenuity my friends.

This might be one off-the-shelf component that could be a great start - depending on the speed of the optional strobe patterns..........

    http://www.kanoycommunications.com/s...FbFFMgod8AUAiw

This second model has even more strobe options and up to 1220 flashes per minute which could be better..........

Besides my headlight, I already have 4 led lights (2 per side) that are always on (can be seen in pic if you look close). The SHO-ME light flasher looks like an interesting option for me since the led lights are already in place.

Since I AM NOT an electrical wiring guru, my question is: can my current led's remain on all the time and go into to "flash mode" when activated OR in order for flash mode to activate must they be "normally off" and flash when activated?

I like the flashing option, but I want them to be ON all the time, even when not flashing. (yes I can contact the mfg, but I thought someone might already know the answer).

    Thanks...

Thank you for bringing this to our attention. I think the strobe idea is going to save many lives and a lot of pain. I plan to order after hearing back on my request to local LEO's in NY.

You could wire the led lights through a double throw push button momentary switch. When the button is not pushed the lights would be on steady, then when the button is pushed the lights would flash until the button is released, then they would be on steady again. That is the quickest and easiest solution I can think of, with a little thought there might be something else. You might need a couple diodes to prevent 12 volts from back-feeding into the device and causing damage.

Hey everybody, before we reply to the topic(s), does anyone know if vendors are allowed to post here? Lightning Strike joined the group for that purpose, to answer any questions you might have. We just want to play by the rules on your forum. Is there a moderator? Didn't see one to ask...

Welcome to Trike Talk.If you scroll to the bottom of the page with the different categories listed you will see a list of user and the mods and admins are colored.Theres a key at the top of that section. You should be able to click on the name and message.Never tried it myself but you should get there.I personally don't see a problem posting but I also don't know the rules about vender posting just know some do.
