QUESTION on Harley Trikes ?

Been ridin 2 wheelers for close to 34 yrs. But a few yrs ago I stated noticing Trike's. Now a friend of mine has a New 20014. Love's it ! He actually traded his 2012 in on a New HD Trike. I took a ride around the block when we were in Arizona for the winter. Never being on a Trike before I felt some what comforable. Maybe a little tense cause its not mine plus me being New to it. I rode with him & his wife for 4 months. Now I have the bug again BADLY !! But my question is. How do you work on these things. being a 2 wheeler from 1981 . I've worked on most of my bikes myself. So do you have to take the Body off these things to work or check on things like the battery and & belt ? Plus anything underneath of it ? Any feed back would be very help full. Thanks

From the rear tires forward is the same as a 2 wheeler. You don't have to take the body off to do any maintenance.

You hardest part on working on them will be getting the RIGHT JACK to safely lift it.

I can't speak specifically about Triglides, but on my DFT Electraglide conversion, service work is pretty much like a stock bike. Pull the seat to check the battery, etc.

Adjusting the belt requires reaching under the body, so it is a little more difficult. Same with changing the rear brake pads. Neither requires removing the body.

I have a (decades old) Handy motorcycle lift. To work on the trike, I had to add outriggers to accommodate the width of the trike. You can order them from Handy, or fabricate some from the metal ramp sets that Harbor Freight sells. In either case, I consider the lift essential.

Replacing the belt on my trike would require removing the body.

much the same as an ultra till you get to the back end.. i found my standard trolly jack (car type) fits under the trike without any pre lift.

They're actually pretty simple to work on, I just recommend the service manual and the Trike supplement. You can do pretty much everything on the floor if you want, or if you don't like working off the floor you can pick up a lift.

For floor work you can put a couple eye bolts in the floor to strap the front wheel down so I doesn't pick up when you lift the back.



I use the same scissors jack as I do on a lift to pick the front or rear of the Triglide up.

And removing the body is pretty easy. It's cracking the case and getting to the belt that's a challenge. I've done it, so it can't be all that hard, though. Just takes time, patience, and their manual. (talking DFT)

I don't jack it up by the rear differential, I place it on the frame as shown in the pictures depending on which end I want to pick up. In the owners manual there is instructions on how to pick one up.
