Opal Areas

We'll a little info please. My spouse has #1 on her bucket list as visiting an Opal Mine or one of the under-ground house area in the mine area. Hard to locate the right areas to visit and if it something that we can rent a vehicle to go and visit or if this is something that is guided... any help and info is appreciated... Thanks from Texas

i would say Coober Pedy it the best known undergound town in Australia but ive never been there. try googling it. i know it has underground pubs and churches. its in northern south Australia. the tricky bit is its a 9 hour ride from the nearest city which is Adelaide. im sure there would be some air transport available

also ther is bus and air services to Coober pedy
