Has anyone had the Champion Side Car reverse gear installed? My 13 Tri-Guide likes to trip the fuse when I try to park it at me camper as it is an up hill climb for it and I don't like parking head in. I was told the trans wouldn't take to drilling in the gears inside of trans, but I had this installed in my 03 Lehman Harley and loved it.

If backing in is worth about $1800, Baker makes a mechanical reverse for Harley transmissions.

I know of a couple people using the reverse from AIM and some running the one from Champion on the HD 6 speed with no issues.

Champion Trikes for my 13 FLHTCUTG is $1480 without install. this is an option when the reverse motor burns out on mine as I was told by the dealer the motor is almost $1400 so it would be a good trasde off for me. haven't looked in Bakers but I will.

The champion reverse works fine.use it on my 96 conversion.When my triglide electric reverse goes I will go with a mechanical unit reverse.
Plus the electric reverse is hard on the electrical system..

I have two Champion mechanical reverse gears, one on my '07 RK with side hack and one on my '09 trike. Both work excellent. Self install is fairly easy with Champion, the Baker requires disassembly of the tranny and Aim is Japenese mfg.

I could also do my own but with the bad knees and back I can't, I don't have a lift table

I can't speak highly enough about Baker's reverse system. Yes, it requires a full tranny rebuild, but the outcome is exactly what HD should have on (or least available for) the TriGlides. Reverse becomes just another gear in your tranny. All gears work as they always did, except when you go to first gear you can press a button and press the gear selection lever again to get reverse (just below first). Leaving reverse back to first gear is simply pulling up on the shift lever as normal (no button) and your in first ready to go.<br />

This probably the most costly solution at this point - it will cost you about $3200 to $3800 depending on your mechanic (pick a good one for this job). If you do your own work, the kit costs in the neighborhood of two grand. My mechanic removed my tranny and we shipped it to Baker for the rebuild and reverse installation at the factory, so know absolutely that it is right. Mine was installed in 2012 and has worked absolutely flawlessly. The newer Baker kits include a better "ramp" for the clutch that cuts down on the lever pressure required to activate the clutch (I couldn't see a lot of improvement there, so don't buy the kit with that point bearing any weight. I do recommend that you look at your drive gearing while doing this installation.

I had installed a 30 tooth front pulley (down from the stock 32 tooth) and a coordinating drop in belt length (I think we went down 3 teeth there, but don't take that as solid fact). If you drop the pulley/belt length, order an extra belt while you are at it to keep stored on you trike. It would be frustrating being out in God's land broken down with a belt problem, and having to wait 'who know how long' for the local mecahnic to get a non-standard belt in.<br />

I will go with Baker F6R again if I get another HD trike. High price, but when you look at what HD guys spend on engine mods, etc. it isn't so far-fetched.

The 2009 - 2010 Triglides are the only model years with the 32 tooth transmission pulley, it can be swapped with the 30 tooth and no belt replacement is necessary. Starting with 2011 to present the Triglide comes with the 30 tooth pulley.

Mine's a Softtail with a Motortrike conversion, and it didn't have enough adjustment to accomodate the new smaller pulley. Performance wise, that one pulley change is remarkable - lower gear ratio at all speeds helps not only take-offs but added torque at highway speeds (much needed with the 6-speed 'overdrive').

I'm out now to take a much needed afternoon ride.

You may want to consider MotorTrike mechanical reverse. I just installed one. I went with the MotorTrike over the others since MotorTrike has a engine cut off switch. If you accidently have the bike in a forward gear and reverse at the same time, the cut off switch turns off the engine so there is no damage to the tranny. I did consider Baker, but the price of the Baker's reverse kit is more expense and you also need to take the tranny apart which including the entire primary section.

My reverse motor gave up the ghost a few months ago [11T/G], I pulled it out took it apart, What I found was the brushes were shot from road salt and grit, I ride all winter, So I accept it. But there aren't any repair part's available And a new motor ''Just'' the motor not labor runs about 1,380$. So I parked carefully, Till I found a shop [with some leg work from a member here] that rebuilds starters. That shop is a throw back to the 50's.

I handed it to him and he rebuilt it in less than 20 minutes while I waited, And 95 dollars....
I'm still careful how/where I park, I still have the original battery and if I hold the reverse to long it will drain it..
