are the one month temp tags only available if you buy from a dealer, or can you get them for a private sale at the Tax office
The one month temps can be purchased prior to going out of state (or in state I suppose) to fetch a bike and ride it home. I carried a set up to that place north of Texas to pick up a Triumph and ride it home just a couple years ago. I am trying to remember the name of the place... Oka-hoogie? Anyway, it is where Kevin Durant went when he left Texas to play ball.

You will probably have difficulty convincing the vehicle registration folks that your trip justifies a TEMP tag but you can try. What are they going to tell you -- NO????
Jeff when are you planning this adventure???

Learned something today. Texas has a 1 month permit that cost $25.00, cash. You have to have proof of insurance. They can be purchased at any state or county tax office in the State.

You don't have to convince your tax office of anything except that the bike you are picking up doesn't have a salvage title (or others of that type) and you have insurance. Seems you are unconvinced when I said I have done it and in fact have done it multiple times. Call your local county tax assessor office if you won't take my word for it.

cheers guys.. firstly Im sure Goldrush didnt mean anything negative, but he knows i want it to tour for a month, rather than to just pick a vehicle up and bring it home.
I have done this before out of North Carolina without any hassle, but that was the 2012 trike, that i bought through a car yard in 2013.
i had done some research on the valuable information i got from the good folks here at trike talk, but couldnt find anything about buying one month tags. i found you can get 3 different kinds, but they were all a week or less.
I know i am way early planning this, but i like to sort out my options early and plan around them.
We will be in texas late July 2015 ( approx one year from now).
this is all about us buying a cheap extended cab pickup, or a Van, and a good Harley. then touring for a Month on the said tags. the bike will then be shipped out of Los Angeles and the tow vehicle will be given away to anyone who wants it, or dropped at a wreckers. if it makes it to LA it will have proven itself a reliable pig.
hopefully we will be able to meet some of you this time

Sort of, kind of, like on the same topic, (not trying to hijack the thread) but I've just arrived in Dallas Tx yesterday evening on a two fold mission. First and foremost is I'll be attending a school for licensed independent insurance adjusters. This is a 3 week class that has me staying at the Clarion Inn on John W Carpenter Freeway.
Secondly (and more exciting) I'll be picking up my new to me Honda GL1500/ MotorTrike Trike!!
Now for the story:
I'm a member of the Honda Valkyrie web site. Was looking through the ads a while ago and saw the ad title: "Anyone interested in a Goldwing trike project"? So I read on and found the above described trike available in the DFW area. Made contact with the lister of the ad who in turn put me in contact with the owner. To make a long story longer; the trike has been sitting for some seven years inside with a wounded motor. It was her late fathers pride and joy. Her nephew claimed to look into it and says it had a "bad piston". The bike has only 48K miles on it. (not much for a Goldwing) Half of the "Tupprware" has been removed and is sitting neatly in the trailer that CAN come with the trike. I'm going to pick it up today sometime after 2 PM. So if there are any trikers from the DFW area that aren't doing anything and would like to stop by, and take a look at my "barn find", the address is 5000 John W. Carpenter Freeway. My classes don't start until the 8th of July so I've got some free time before I start. Either P.M. me or call my cell: 810-650-2224
Thanks,
Larry Gill from East China Michigan, temporarily in Dallas Texas!!
