2013 Triglide Oil Temps

Out for a ride today. 80* on the air temp guage, 32psi oil pressure. 14.75 on voltage guage. Not riding it like a crotch rocket. Cruising 35-55 speed limits. No engine mods, do have the baffle and the 2 pieces on the side of the forks(can't remember name, right now).
Front of engine every now and then would sound like cool oil hitting a hot piece of steel(tink, tink), especially when rolling on throttle gradually. At stop, checked the digital Harley oil dipstick, oil level was scrolling up and down, and temp was flashing 285*
The tink, tink noise is happening more and more as I ride it more.
6700 miles on the clock. Did the 5K at 5500, Dino oil.
I have also put close to a half a quart of oil into since oil change. Probably a 1/4 quart of oil since 1k service from dealer.
Any ideas? What should I tell service besides I'm getting tired of the parking brake not holding after adjusting, and get laughed at, when it goes in for the radio(blank horizontal line in middle of screen).

If you are lugging the engine in a higher gear at slow speeds your causing it to ping. Keeping the engine in the lower rpms for the gear your in is also going to cause more heat. More heat and lugging the engine can cause your engine to use oil.

When you shut the engine off the tink sound can be the contraction of the head pipe and heat shield as it cools. A slight breeze will speed up the cooling of the metal as it contracts.

What octane are you using ? Harley recommends 91, With my 11 T/G i use 93..
Also i use full Synthetic 20/50..

Have to keep closer eye on rpms, and oil usage.

93/premium fuel. Speedway, Citgo, Mobil. Usually keep eye on stations, even ask managers about there premium sales, checking to see how fresh their premium is.

You shouldn't be getting any pinging in 5th at that RPM, you shouldn't be using that much oil either. If it is indeed getting into the engine and being burned, the oil could be contaminating the air fuel charge in the cylinder and causing the pinging, especially if it is something which recently started. I rarely see much oil usage in 5,000 miles in my dads 09 Triglide, the 10 I used to have and my 06 Ultra Classic.

You should bring this to the attention of the dealer, they should look for signs of a leaking valve guide seal or other causes of oil usage.

Gotta go to another dealer, or find a good independent. Selling and another service manager from different dealer, without test ride, said noise is normal for Harley. Guess I'll have to draw up a document, force them to sign it, so when I break down I've got some ammo.
These dealers could not replicate front end wobble on mine, and three friends 2011
limited ultras front end wobble until one guy video taped it!

I've always used synthetic oil in all my motorcycles. Much higher tolerance to heat and thermal breakdown. Noise sure sounds like pinging. If you are using premium gas and not lugging it, I'd take it to the dealer if you are still under warranty. I do not understand dealers turning away warranty work!! They still get paid or credited from the MoCo.

Problem with warranty work is the flat rate is less than what most dealers like too see. I can remember the crying a dealer did when they had to replace the rear brake light switch under the recall. It seems Harley only allotted 30 minutes to change the switch and bleed the rear brakes.

On a 2 wheel bike its a snap to do it in the allotted time, a trike takes more than the allotted half hour which means a loss for both the tech who drew the job along with the dealership. Not all dealers like warranty work, its a necessary evil of doing business.
