    Default Ballpark price please

Still deciding between a HD or Wing. Just saw what looks like a nice Wing for sale and was hoping the group might be able to tell me what I should expect to pay for a trike with the following: 2004 Wing with under 20K miles, EZsteer CB, Moto trike body, fender bras new front tire etc. Please keep in mind I have not seen other than a frontal picture of the bike but have sent seller request for more. Also not sure how much below 20K the milage is. Assuming the bike is in as good a shape as it appears, what is a fair price to offer? Any specific thing to be concerned about in a 2004 Wing? Any help appreciated...........Alan

One thing U want to do is check out the diffrent trike kits, ride as many as U can. Not everyone is happy with the same kit. CSC might not fit U or ur passenger but it might fit me... the same with Champion and the others... I would check to see who did the install. As U might have read on here that can be good and bad. Also if U are going to get close to the $30K mark I would go ahead and Look at the Harley TG  (did I say that) most of Ur Gold wing from 2004 and up are going to be 25K and up... With a new Harley U are going to get a warranty and U know who put the kit together....Don't let money be the bottom line, quailty and satifaction is what matters...

    Good luck...

I agree with what Steve said, it would be nice if you could check out different set-ups. Harley's Tri-Glide is a terrific deal, and you would be getting a 2010 for $31,000.00 or you may even do better then that.

    Alan -

Is that a California bike by any chance? I had an '04 Wing with Motor Trike kit between my Harleys. Wouldn't that be funny if it were my old bike?!

There was some talk back then with an overheating problem at low speeds in heavy traffic on hot days. I only experienced it once with mine but it was in Friday-getaway traffic in Silicon Valley in August with the temperature at 102 degrees. Once things got rolling it cooled right back down to normal.

I also vaguely remember something about a Honda recall to strengthen the frame but can't recall if it related to specific years or specific VINs. I'm thinking it was VINs but do know that mine was not involved.

It was great meeting you guys the other day. Good luck in your quest for the perfect trike!

mid 20's seems like the ballpark. Just do a good investigation on it's background. Who built it? How many previous owners? and anything else ou can think to ask. Then listen for any conflictions in the answers. If they all agree then the seller is probably being truthful or just has a good story. Try and get a feel for the seller. If at all possible try to get a good test drive.

I bought a 2005 Goldwing with the Lehman Monarch II kit, lots of extra's with 7278 miles for $22,900.00 in November. Priced and looked at a lot of trikes the last 20 years, they seem to hold their value. Most are priced mid $20's to mid $30's. Good luck with your purchase. Jay A.

Using the info you provided I looked up the Used value on the NADA site. Couldn't find the Moto kit so I priced a couple others (Lehman and Champion) The 2005 Goldwing bike/kit combinations have an average retail between $19,960.00 and $21,960.00. Depending on condition and other add-on's I'd think, based on the low mileage, somewhere in the mid 20's would be a fair price. Just for comparison, my friend who owns the local Ford Dealership took a '98 Goldwing Trike in on trade a couple months ago and gave the guy $16,000.00 for it. He brought the trike home and kept it!!!

Trikes are no different than cars when it comes to pricing. It all boils down to satisfaction.

I used to sell autos and the "right" selling price was when three people were satisfied.

    1. The buyer - he/she has to feel they got the best possible dela and are happy with the vehicle and what they have to pay.
    2. The Dealer - He had to feel he got the most he could from the deal and was satisfied with profit on the sale.
    3. The Salesman (me) - I had to be satisfied I had maximized my income by getting the best possible price for the vehicle, knowing the customer would come to me again for their next car or recommend me to their friends.

There will always be someone out there that has a friend who's next door neighbor's brother-in-law got a better deal on the very same car, or another salesman that got a customer to pay a lot more than I sold it for.

My advice, just ride it compare it to others for sale and make sure YOU are satisfied. Then buy it!

Do that and I guarantee you will be happy with your purchase and even happier when you struggle to wipe that grin off your face after a ride.

Some will think you "stole it" and some will think you overpaid, but you'll be having too much fun to care what they think.

    Ride safe!
    Dave

Thanks for the replies thus far. Seems the asking price is right in the range you all discribed. Still favor the sitting position of the HD over the GW, but prefer the quietness of the GW. Is there a way to tone down the HD? I guess sitting comfort is of prime importance in the long run. I'm sure I'll overthink this to death but....
It was very nice meeting you and your wife Hawkeye and I think about your bike as an option if I go HD. Still need to put a few financial things together in the next couple of months so in the meantime I'll continue my due diligence.
Thanks for the GW advice and no it was not a Calif trike.
Thanks to all you guys for your help.....Alan

Alan, about the sound of the HD... The stock pipes are automatically quieter than those many of us change over to. In addition, with the trike body in place, the rider really does not hear the sound the same way you do on two wheels! In fact, I missed my rumble so much I thought I needed new pipes, but my hubby assures me it is still there if he is behind me on the road .

    Alan -

Nana makes a good point. Many of us Harley trikers go with a louder than stock pipe. My Harley/Lehman that you heard when you were here has Vance and Hines Oval slip-on mufflers on it rather than the stock muffler. I made the swithc shortly after I got the the trike. If I decided I wanted it quieter I could simply remove the V & H slip-ons and replace them with a stock muffler. In the case of my Lehman trike the mounting bracket accomodates both muffler types.

My Harley/Champion kit you heard also has non-stock pipes on it. Those mufflers were what Champion was using as their "standard" muffler back in '07 when I had the conversion done. They have since begun using the stock Harley muffler as the standard for their conversions. I've been told I could have the stock mufflers retrofitted for about $200.00 but then I couldn't be semi-obnoxious when the mood strikes.

I have 1 3/4" baffles in the Rush mufflers on my Ultra. The sound was perfect until I did the 103" build with cams. Now she's bordering on just a little too loud.......but she's a Harley!!!!
