Headset Jack problem!!

Is anyone besides my Wife having problems connecting their headset/mike to the tank mounted jack? MY WIFE HAS TO PLUG & UNPLUG & FIDDLE WITH HERS SEVERAL TIMES BEFORE IT MAKES CONTACT SO I CAN HEAR HER THRU THE CB ON MY BIKE. IT HAPPENS EVERY TIME SHE UNPLUGS THE HEADSET....... ANY IDEAS?????

Sounds like a loose wire in the plug or the socket. Can she try plugging into the passenger socket and see if she has the same problem there? If not it could be the socket. If it is the same then probably the plug.
Or try her plug on your bike.

I found that the cable from the helmet to the tank was bad. I couldn't get the connector open to see if I could make a repair so I junked it and put on a new cable.

Same happened to mine and also a couple of my buddies. it was the plug not making contact. it would work itself loose while riding also. We all sent a complaint to HD. ( This is the Harley headset with mike. )

She has the Harley headset with mike purchased from parts dept. I will try the headset on my bike, then return it if its bad. Thanks guys!

I'll be the first to admit it for my wife.....

Make sure she has the plug in the correct orientation, the detent in the plug matches the detent in the socket. After the second or third time I showed her I got an "oh".....

I used my helmet/headset for the 1st time on my 2013 trike last weekend. Figured out the cord must be bad as I had nothing out of one side. I had bought a 2nd set in case I have any passengers at some point. Switched cables with it and it worked fine. I will take it in this weekend to see if the one that came with the trike is covered by warranty.

My cable got worse and worse over the years. I performed surgery on it and found wires broken right where they go into solid plug at dash end. I managed to slice away and resolder all pins. Not the neatest job, but it works fine now. No way was I giving HD money for something that couldn't handle the vibrations.

I went thru two of the H-D headsets and one cord and finely trashed them and purchased the headset from J&M Audio, best move i ever made regarding headsets. I have the J&M headsets on three of my helmets and have had no issues for the last 3 to 4 yrs.

me too...bought the HD new longer cord. no more problems. the oem cord I think being so short probably broke a wire with the stress from turning head etc...

Well I also got the longer replacement cord and it comes with a clip to help hold the cable to relieve stress and support of the longer cable. This one doesn't hang down pulling from your plug on the helmet and just bouncing around.
Time will tell

I just purchased the headset with their standard cable and also had to purchase the cable extension compatible with my H-D Radio connection. Have used the same one for about 3 years or better, and have since purchased two Nolan's (N-103 and a NC-43) with their headsets built in and have had NO problems with either.

I think the fact that their connection from the helmet is at a 90 degree angle and held in with a rubber hold down is what keeps it from loosening up while riding. Whatever the reason, they work awesome and the H-D ones are junk!!!

When I stopped by the local dealer with my helmet/headset, they tested the cord and found it was bad. They ordered me a replacement under warranty. I was surprised they didn't have one in stock.

I don't know how to say this with a non sarcastic tone, but the H-D headsets are junk!! As I previously stated, I went thru 3 headset (warranty) and one cord and had trouble with all of them!!! J&M headsets are the way to go if you want quality sound and no problems!!

If you try to stay with the H-D headsets, good luck!!

Which $200 +/- J&M headsets are you specifically referencing? I miss what the difference is.

Which $200 +/- J&M headsets are you specifically referencing? I miss what the difference is.

Don't remember which one I purchased, just that it was the most expensive one they sold. I was so discussted with the H-D experience that I would have almost paid any amount. If you have questions, just call them, they are great people to deal with!
