You said there are no dumb questions so here goes! We bought a 2013 HD trike from an individual (not a dealer). It had been nearly totaled in a fatal crash. It was rebuilt by a HD shop and carries a full extended warranty until 2018. We were assured by the HD shop who did the work, that it is back to new condition and since buying it seems to be be all good but now we are ready to do do some stuff and i want to get rid of the catalytic converter. I have not spoken with the HD shop yet but can they usually change out the pipes and get rid of the CC or is that something that has to be done outside of a HD shop and does it effect the warranty? I would like to have some info before i approach them about doing the work. We are not mechanics ourselves and it looks like there are sensors coming from the CC and the work might be too much for us to handle at home?

Not sure about the warranty question. But to take off the Header pipe consists of removing the mufflers,and cross over pipe under the bike,disconnect the O2 sensors by your CC along with the heat shields.

Either cut out the Cat or replace the Pipe with the Gutted Cat or aftermarket

Most dealers will do it for you.. That's what I had done on my 11 T/G 'Back in 11...
As far as warranty go's.. My dealer would take care of it... But and this it a big BUT, Will some dealer out side of yours do so..

Had mine done by HD dealer. Warranty still good as long as they did it . Wish I had spent a few bucks more and bought Rinehart or Vance &Hines X pipes. Everyone says u get a little more torque.

Some dealers will play along and others are more or less a stick in the mud.

It would be a good bet that IF the warranty issue were for something other than engine (breaks, transmission, etc.) there wouldn't be a problem. Engine problems could be a problem. Most major repairs require MoCo approval, the dealer is out of the picture. A question for you, does the repaired trike carry a normal title or a salvaged title?? Could make a big difference in resale.

2014 Tri Glide

Talked to my HD Dealer today and they SUGGESTED S&S Power tune duals with S&S pipe extension kit .... and Reinhart 4" slip-ons. However I might opt for the Cobra 4.5" PowrFlo Slip-ons (made in USA with Lifetime warranrty) over the Reinharts.

Keep the stock exhaust on hand at home .... just in case inspection laws change in my state.

In my experience purchasing from the dealer and having them do the install keeps everyone happy. I usually get 15% off of list so it is not that bad.

Might be, I was surprise how many Shops will do it.
What I do know they're taking a chance doing it.

You and the dealer or whomever, are violating Fed law when you remove the Cats!
Yes, you place the engine portion of the warranty in dire jeopardy, no matter who does the work.
The offending dealer may overlook the modification but, not likely if you have a problem while away from home or if the "factory rep" gets involved!

And that is just on your side of the state Barbara. Just because of the smog laws over there.
On the East side not a problem. Most shops don't have a problem with it. Local HD included.

Thinking about these mufflers to go with my V&H header (at some point). It helps to have him pretty close so I could scope them out first.
