Default Progressive 444 Shocks on TriGlide

Has anyone installed the Progressive 444 on their TriGlide?? I am of the understanding that someone has installed them upside down on their TriGlide, but can't find the thread that I thought I had read on it.

I have a 2013 TriGlide and am considering replacing the OEM air ride system on my Trike, if feasible and the adjusting is not too much of a hassle. I think I read the whomever done this set theirs at the third setting!!

    Any assistance will be appreciated!!

Yes it was me. I have them on my 2013 TG. The instructions say they allow upside down install and I did to make the pre-load easier to get to. I pre-loaded them with 3 full turns. They can be turned 8 full turns. I got my instinct for the pre-load from a previous set of Ohlins that I had on my Champion kit Road Glide. The factory rep had them pre-loaded to 25% based on the trike kit and my weight. Anyway the 3 turns has been perfect for me. I weigh 220 lbs and ride solo most of the time. The tour pac and the trunk are full. Just finished a 5515 mile trip to Canada from the Florida Keys and the shocks were great. All kinds of different roads from smooth to rough. I have not had to readjust but if it was necessary the pre-load is right there were you can turn it without much trouble. Part # 444-4020B 13 inch They show those for the Ultra but not the TG. They fit nicely on the TG. This is my experience I hope it helps you. Ted

Thanks for the quick come-back Gorilla!! Really appreciate the info. I weigh 162 lbs solo and the wife about 135 lbs, do you have a suggestion regarding an initial setting to start with, our possibly I should discuss with Progressive ??

You might want to discuss it with progressive but if I was to go out on a limb I would do 3 to 4 turns in your case.

You may want to consider their 416-1643A shock made for the Tri Glide. They are perfect in our opinion. We wondered why we did not put them on right from the first ride. They are selling from amazon for $298.25 free shipping.

They are very good shocks but it does not get you away from the air pre-load. That was my purpose in going with the 444's

That is my purpose as well, I did not know the suggested shocks were Air Shocks!! Not interested in staying with the Air Ride Shocks, so will continue my pursuit of the 444's!!

Had 444 HD installed 7/23. Very firm ride and handling. Had wife on over the weekend and wanted her opinion on the setup. Out of the box, 2 up topping 400# very firm, comfortable and no adjustment needed. She commented any adjustment would be too much. Thus far very satisfied and no air bleed-down. Had another rider behind me for a lot of miles and he commented the ride looked very stable and the overall stance of the bike is very pleasing. No more droopey a$$ syndrome either.

No pre-load, installed with factory setting. I'm going to try 3 turns tomorrow after a breakfast run just to see the difference. Spent most of the day mowing and ran out of time.

Remember to try it out with close to the load you normally have on. Let us know.

I tried to adjust lifting one wheel at a time but no luck. With the upside down install I can't seem to get enough leverage to make adjustment. Must both wheels be suspended to do install?
    Thanks dan

No I put them on one at a time. Had to jack the swing arm to align but it was not really a issue.

Got the shocks adjusted to #4 setting. Jury is still out. It's stiff but not untolerable. Not much fall away or lean in turns, stays real surefooted. Wife likes it so I'll stay there before experimenting any further. A positive improvement over stock air shocks that's for sure. I guess after 18 months of ownership I got used to the old shocks and now need more miles with current setup to really judge the 444's. I'll update when I have more miles on the unit.

Got close to 600+ miles with the 444s. Love them, even better with the update on this site about air pressure in tires. Run 22 lbs. and with the shocks at 4 turns, it makes many miles with lots of smiles for both of us,
Many thanks guys for valuable info.

Ordered mine today on the basis of the comments reviewed on this thread, which mostly was due to your comments and experience. I am hoping to receive them prior to my trip to the TT Cedar City Rally. It is about 1,000 miles each way so that should provide me with enough experience to have an opinion anyway.

Thanks to all that provided feedback, it really helps!!

Dan, how did the 3 turns work out? I will be installing my 444's mid next week and am anticipating 3 turns to start with as well. I weigh 160 lbs and the wife weighs about 130 lbs or so. Do you think 4 turns may be excessive for two up?? Any comments/suggestions will be appreciated. I called Progressive and could not get them to commit since they have not done the 444's on the Trike and especially the upside down install.

    Thanks for any comments!!
