Question Steering Stabilizer

I'm thinking about installing a steering stabilizer on my 05 Electra Glide Trike. Can any one who has one on there trike tell me if they work very well. The HD one's are to expensive for what they are. I have seen some aftermarket one,s on ebay for $99 but they stick straight out the front. If any one has installed one can you tell me how they look sticking out like that and how good they work? Thanks for any info.

I have a 2010 FLHXXX Street Glide trike that has a Steering Stabilizer and it is doing its job for GREAT steering control, no shimmies, corners with ease over bumps, I think A must for high speed driving.
Is it worth it YES.
Do you have a raked front end? What kit do you have? I have a Champion with 5 degrees of rake and have not had the need for one in 7k miles

I have the champion kit with 09 tri glide trees. Sometimes it gets a little wobble when hitting bumps or RR thats why I am thinking about the stabilizer. Other than that it steers fine. I am just wondering about the kind that sticks out the front if it shows much or looks dumb sticking out the front.
The HD brand is hidden when installed but it is much to expensive for what it is and all the aftermarket ones I can find stick out the front. Thats why I am wondering what someone who has that kind what they think of it and if it stops the occasional wobble.

Would you please explain "stick straight out the front". I've had two steering dampers and seen a number of others and none of them "stick straight out the front". One end of the damper cylinder body clamps to the front fork leg and the other end clamps to some part of the frame around the neck area. The damper shaft/adjuster sticks out the rear of the damper cylinder at the frame neck beside the front cylinder (V-twin). If by "stick out the front" you mean sticks out forward of the front fork assembly then I suspect the damper is probably installed backward for whatever reason.

The only after market ones I could find was on ebay for $99 and they have a little instalation video on the ad and it shows it sticking out the front when installed. That is what I mean. Look on ebay for Harley steering stabilizer, the ones listed for $99 and watch the video and you will know see I mean. If any one knows of a better one reasonably priced let me know. HD wants over $400. Way to much for just a little cylinder.

Lehman kits for the HD's had a steering stabalizer. I don't know if it was an option or not but I installed a number of them on the kits that I built. Now here is my take on them. My HD/CSC trike does not have one, IMHO it doesn't need one. Yes, it does have a little shake at low speeds, so did my Gold Wing/Hannigan. I put 40K on the Wing and have 23K on the CSC. My 09 Tri-Glide has one and it does eliminate the shake. I have ridden it without the stabalizer without any problems, it does shake like the others. I don't need one, if you want one, then I agree the HD one is way to many $. Try either the universal or see if Lehman can supply one.

The Lehman attaches to the rear of the front fork and to the frame down tube.
I had a 2002 FLHTCU trike with the MT conversion. Just got a 2009 Tri Glide. The tri glide handles much better than the 02 with not much wooble. Still a little. My new one seems to handle much better at all speeds.

I bet your 02 MT conversion was not raked. The Tri-Glide is. Handles a lot better because of the rake.

While I agree that the HD Tri-Glide damper is overpriced for what it is, I put it on mine for several reasons, two of which were the finished product looks, and the fact that it works. If the looks of the finished installation mean something to you, then the TG damper is about as good as it gets. After all, it's only money.

Gotta agree with that Dave. They sure nailed the looks with the new configuration. I plan to install one on my Ultra this winter.

Some times you just have to bit the bullet and pay the HD price because it's a better fit and/or looks better. After all they do have their stuff made for their bike.
