    Default 1988 GL1500 Trike

    Hi, <br />
    I just purchased a 88 Honda GL1500 trike.. The question I have is: I have no idea what trike conversion I have.. It was installed in 1997.. <a href="http://www.triketalk.com/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=21582&amp;d=1407494504 " title="Name: 00202_itKG18WXmf1_50x50c.jpg

    Just a wild guess but it looks like a California Side Car conversion to me. The rear end ration is probably 3.00 but should still be on a tag on the rear end itself. Congrats on the purchase!

    I had an 88 the same color but mine was a MT.
    I agree that you have a CSC conversion.

    There should be info stamped somewhere in the sub-frame. Unsure where, since we don't know that brand!
    Have to get underneath and search around.

    If your trike rear end is a solid axle it is probably from one of the smaller Fords as that seems to be the most popular,usually from a Mustang. I would take it to a very knowledgeable auto mechanic and see if they can identify the rear end. You might also take one side of the brake shoes in and maybe they can identify what you have from that. My guess is that whoever made your conversion they wont have a clue as to what they used 15 years ago. Mine is a 1990 converted in 2006 and when I called TriKing in 2013 they could only tell me it would have been one or another. I took the axle bearings and seals into a NAPA store and they were able to identify it as a 67 mustang.<br />

    BTW beautiful Trike and welcome to the group

    call csc. they can tell where to find the id tag for the kit. I called champion and was told it would be on the right swing arm. turns out some da reversed the swing arms. I found it upside down on the left swing arm. champion would not answer my email twice when I asked who installed the kit using the tag id #'s

    Thanks again.. I have another question.. I've been trying to get classic motor cycle insurance. ? I have policies with J.C. Taylor for my camaro and 86 suzuki intruder.. they tell me that they DON'T insure Trikes.... they will only insure it for the value of a stock 88 GL1500 goldwing.. Has anyone ran into this problem. And can you direct me to a company that will insure my trike as a classic.Thank you.

    Congrats on the new trike I have a 97 with the CSC kit you have. The label on mine was stuck on under the left side panel but I guess it could be anywhere...

    I went with Progressive on the insurance and they insured it for the value of the trike, not just for the stock bike. Basically they regard the trike kit as an accessory and it's not too much more to bump up the price value......

    Not sure where in NY you are, but if your close enough the trike rally in Vt is this weekend coming up, I as well as other people will be there on Thursday, a lot of great riding roads. It's in West Dover,Vt just west of Bennington and the info is on the site here.

    I also have Progressive... insure my 97 Gl1500 Roadsmith. They set the basic price on the Goldwing and the conversion is added ($13K) as an accessory. I was recently in a minor accident and they settled more than fairly and very fast and chased the other company down to pin the other driver at fault and got them to pay my deductible as well. I was 100 percent surprised how good they were.

    I went with progressive for 12 years. This year I'd switched to Geico saved $500. Only because I have 3 bikes and there multi bike is set up differently.

    I have lots of bikes and get the multi-bike rate BUT each state has different rates and ways of figuring policy cost. The main thing is to be adequately insured and with a company that behaves properly when you have an accident. I was very impressed with Progressive. In fact, the adjuster knew where to get comparable prices for stuff that was obsolete... like the highway boards; mine were probably 20 years old but I got enough to buy new KuryAkyn boards if I wanted. He came out and studied what had happened in the wreck I had and then cut me a check on the spot which included average shop rate based on the book values for time.

    Here we go a bit off the original topic, but as for the insurance, get more accessory coverage than you think you need. A few years ago when we had some unpleasantness with our 1995 GL1500SE Motor Trike. <br />
    <br />
    (Here is a link to that story:<br />
    <a href="http://www.triketalk.com/forum/threads/8720-A-tale-to-tell?highlight=" target="_blank">http://www.triketalk.com/forum/threa...ell?highlight=</a><br />
    Tells a good deal about Progressive Insurance - we were treated well)<br />
    <br />
    The insurance co. - Progressive - insured the original stock-as-from-the-factory part of the rig and everything else as an accessory. The trike kit was an accessory, and when they totaled it the adjuster called and we went over <u>everything</u> that wasn't originally on the 'Wing - we got credit up to our limit for everything from the Corbin seat, added chrome, footboards, Tulsa windshield, even down to the pinstriping. They gave us $3500 for the original bike (That seems low, but everything behind the swingarm pivot was gone. No rear wheel, suspension, saddlebags, etc.) We had $15,000 of accessory coverage and we got all of it. Our adjuster said we night have been able to get $1000 more for accessories had we the coverage. We got a good deal on the trike originally, and we actually got a few hundred more from insurance than we paid for it. Progressive also has an excellent roadside assistance &amp; towing program.

    I'd recommend it to for the small amount it costs.
