Default Tri Glide GPS option

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

What is the cost of the GPS option on the 2010 tri glides? Is it worth it or are the Garmins etc. better and at lower cost. Is there an additional screen included with the Tri Glide GPS? The radio screen seems rather small for a proper map. Thanks.........Alan

The zumo 660 (garmin) is an available option from HD. This is a remote mount unit with a bigger screen than the older upgrades to the Harmon-Kardin radio GPS, which does use the existing screen. The zumo 660 can be removed and used in a car as well. Here's what's in the box:
    •Road Tech zumo 660 unit
•MapSource City Navigator North America NT DVD
•Road Tech zumo Automotive Mount Kit
    •Motorcycle Cradle and Harness Assembly
    •Harley-Davidson Mount Dust Cover
    •Carrying Case
    •USB Cable
    •AC Power Supply/Charger
    •Owner's manual
    •Quick reference guide
The above kit is P/N 92115-09 and lists for $749.95 at your dealer. For a fairing equipped HD, you'll need P/N 92238-09 Fairing mount kit, $39.95.
The unit comes with all of the Harley dealers pre-loaded, a trip computer, turn-by-turn, 3-D building view, media player & audio books, bluetooth settings, pre-loaded POI, and a picture viewer.
It has a 4.3 in. diagonal, 480 x 272 pixels; WQVGA TFT landscape display with white backlight and touch screen.

You can see all the features here:
Genuine Motor Accessories | Harley-Davidson USA

If you shop on-line at one of the discount dealers, you'll pay about $680.

I got a chance to see one installed, and it's pretty decent looking, and glove-friendly.

Zumo is a good system. Been using one for 3 years.

    Alan -

I use the Zumo as well. It's the one you saw mounted on the handlebar of my Ultra/Champion when you were here. The 660 is the current model; mine is the prior 550. I've been using it for several years now and am quite happy with it.

As Ultraboy suggests, shop around for a good price. When I got mine I found differences of as much as $150.00. I ended up with a good deal from Tiger GPS. They were a tad more expensive than some of the other places I looked at but had a much higher customer satisfaction rating than most of the others. The few extra bucks for a little peace of mind was worth it to me.

Are the turn instructions broadcast through the Zumo, trikes speakers or into a headset? Are there multiple choice settings, say when I'm not wearing a helmet with speakers?

You can probably buy a ZUMO for considerably less from a GPS store/internet dealer.

    Spector -

Let me start off by saying that I don't listen to the spoken instructions. I go strictly by watching the screen. As you travel the Zumo will show your route in a "zoomed out" mode. How far out is something you can control. When your approach within one mile of a change of road it zooms way in to display the change you're about to make, displays the route through the change and puts instructions for the change on the screen. After years of practice I can just glance quickly at the map and tell what it wants me to do. I seldom read the instructions.

Now, to your question....

If you want the audio you can get it through a headset or through the trike speakers. I don't know what kind of trike you have but all mine are Harley's and that's what I'm familiar with.

The Zumo has an audio output jack built into it. The Harley audio system has an input jack built into it. For about four bucks you can get an audio patch cord at Radio Shack that will let you connect the two together.

When you do that the audio from the Zumo gets sent to the Harley audio system.

You can use the standard Harley audio controls to route the Zumo output to your headset or your speakers.

The only advantage to getting the Zumo from Harley is it already has all the dealerships, Shell gas stations & I think it's Travel Lodge motels programed in. 'Course you can down load this info (free!) on line too if you get the Zumo else where. I got my 550 from Amazon last spring for $365 -- less than half what Harley wanted. I can do a down load myself for that kinda money!! The advantage to listening to the Zumo is if you don't sometimes when the intersections are REAL close together, it's easy to miss a turn. Yes, Santa Fe NM STILL has dirt streets -- discovered this when I missed a turn when the streets were about 50 yds apart. You'll find "Ms Zumo", since she's a computer generated voice, has problems pronouncing some street names -- OH, & she gets pi$$ed if you don't follow her route! Kinda funny! I've used it a LOT as Road Captain & her way of getting to the ride starting point isn't always the best or it isn't routed on one of the streets I prefer. When I go my way at one of her turn points her response of "Recalculating" is in a MOST perturbed voice.

If you run Zumo most of the time, it "learns" your preferred routes.

It's quite an amazing gadget! I would imagine the 660 kept the "fuel gauge" feature. You can program how many miles you want to run between fuel stops. When you reach that point, "she" will tell you "Low Fuel" & put a little gas pump on the display. Push the gas pump with a finger & it gives the distance & direction (compass heading) to the nearest gas stations. Keep in mind not ALL gas stations are programmed in -- only the ones that have told Garmin they want to be "on the map". Same with other businesses.

Yeah, but....you do realize you didn't get the Harley-Davidson name or Bar & Shield on yours! Add to that, the risk of missing the t-shirt shops and you start to realize the shortfall between the two.

We all ready pay a lot to the motor company for the bar and shield. I have actual gotten tired of buying the t-shirts. MJ had a quilt made out of the ones I don't wear. Looks great on the couch.

Just wired in the Zumo 660 on my 2009 Tri-Glide..excellent technology; works well. Only issue is that it does not "interrupt" the radio when "her" verbal prompts are issued.... You have to click to accessories to hear her, and then you are not hearing the radio.... there needs to be some kind of an interrupt system.

I heard that Kennedy Technologies sells an interrupt switch of some kind...Anybody know about it?

I've been very happy with my Tomtom Rider GPS. It uses blue tooth to a headset but most of the time I am using visual flight rules while riding. very easy to take on trips and battery good for 5 hrs. if needed. And it's the only women I can get away with yelling at for being stupid. I'm sure I won't be directed boff any cliffs any time soon, I hope.

Harley Davidson by definition is the ability to convert gas into noise without the byproduct of horsepower.

You have to click to accessories to hear her, and then you are not hearing the radio.... there needs to be some kind of an interrupt system.

I heard that Kennedy Technologies sells an interrupt switch of some kind...Anybody know about it?
My zumo 665 works great it interupts the radio when the GPS talks. Of coarse you will need the optional wire harness Harley sells.

I also have the 660 WITH the interface harness/module (a worthy investment). The voice will then interrupt the radio when giving instructions. Also, if you want to make the 660 like an iPod and load mp3 music, you have adapter cabling to run out the inside fairing to the aux jack of the radio.

Save your money if you have the Garmin Zumo The harness will not work I know because I wasted about $200 for part and labor only to find out it will only work with the Road Tech. Its a:banghead:nother ploy by the Motor Company to get your money
