Default Spent hours cleaning exhaust pipe

Went for a long ride yesterday, everything went great, but when I got home I noticed the right heel of my boom melted, matched it up and sure enough the exhaust pipe was wearing some of my boot. Took hours to clean, I see Harley sells a Heel Guard #50500225, will that fit on a 2014 trike with stock foot-boards, anyone using this? does it help?

So does steel wool. Or kerosene. As does gasoline but due to its flammability it's not the best idea.

If you got the one without any screws to hold it on you had better find a way to put some in to hold it on the footboard. I lost mine with the mounting tape style. POS ! Worked fine while it was on tho.

Floorboard extensions that move them an inch out will help also in keeping your boot off the exhaust, Plus you may find it far more comfortable than the stock position.

I put the Harley heel guard on mine after my 1st incident. Requires drilling 1 hole. Very easy install. I use Goof Off (liquid). Takes it right off with NO RISK of a scratch.

First off, Kuryakyn makes the floorboard adaptors to move the floorboards outward and I asked them if they would fit a 2014 Trike and was told yes so I ordered them. The right board relocates fine but the kit will not fit the left board. Kuryakyn did not look to see the new emergency brake pedal causes the floorboard to be mounted in a completely new way and their adaptor does NOT work.
Cleaning the mess off of your chrome is easy when you use the Mr. Clean eraser pads. Just get them wet and they work wonders. Just don't keep rubbing in one place too long or your can dull the chrome. Rub a little then wipe and check and keep repeating till clean.

For floorboard extensions, the VtwinGoodies will work on a 2014 Tri-Glide when combined with the DK Custom Spacer.

Jim at SOOS Kits has a set that works on the 2014 TG. I just installed mine a couple weeks ago.

I will never use steel wool again. It may look like you are not damaging the chrome, but you are. I used 0000 size and buy the end of the summer the chrome was noticeably duller. I don't even like to use chrome cleaner on any of my chrome surfaces. I use Windex, which was recommended by a chrome plater.

The Easy Off Cold Oven cleaner was the best. Spray it on at night-wipe off in the morning. Just remember to cover everything around the pipes so you don't get it on the paint.

If you have to scrape, use wood or plastic.

    Floor board extenders also help.

OK Gary, guess I learned somthin. Never had to use steel wool in the same place that long. Windex and Easy Off Cold Oven cleaner look like the hot tip then. Put that on list of 'chrome cleaners'.

I have a folder in the garage about 2" thick of where to order my next battery from, who makes the best brake pads, what shocks have been recommended by who, who to get windshields from, etc. So, you made my folder. Ain't you proud. Or is that La, de da!

Well, BIG LA DE DA as Chris Farley would say.

I didn't use the steel wool that often - only when it was caked on pretty heavy, but even once was too much for me. Easy Off was by far the easiest and less elbow grease method.

You and me both. I have a 2 drawer filing cabinet with that stuff. Along with product reviews from motorcycle magazines.
Motorcycle Consumer News is my "Go To" magazine for real, truthfull, honest reporting on motorcycle related products.
