Something similar was posted a few days ago. Well mine does that as well, will only start in neutral. But now the engine will die as soon as I put it in gear. What all do you have to take of to get to the kick stand safety switch?

Does the engine die when you put it in gear or will it crank in gear with the clutch pulled in?
There are 2 safety switches. One on the clutch lever and side stand switch.
There was another inquiry about this just a few days ago. The answer seemed to be a sticking clutch switch(?).
That is what I am thinking to. If a lever had been removed you can either get the pin out of place or pop the end off. It's plastic and brittle.
Are you sure the kick stand is going all the way up, not hitting something. If u have not been moving it , it should not have broken. All you do is tie the switch wires together.
When I am gona fix something I will fix it. You don't have to bug me every 6 months.

I've had this happen to two Gold Wing 1800s I've owned....may not be Your problem, but each time I just sprayed electric motor cleaner in the clutch lever switch housing.....CURED...might be worth a "cheap try"......
..if it has WHEELS, I'm in...ThumbUp
How is your battery? Mine was dying according to the Battery Bug. I shows voltage, and every time the trike gets started the bug reads the health of the battery. At about 40% on the meter the trike would only start in "N". On the trip from Minnesota the trike needed a jump to start north of KC MO. At that time the meter read 13%. I put in a new AGM battery, the meter reads 100% and the trike starts right up in gear with the clutch pulled. I didn't do anything to the levers.
Just another possibility to check out.

Thank you all....It was the kick stand switch. The inner ring had moved just a bit where it would only start in neutral then shut down when put in gear. Moved the inner ring till it would start in neutral and with the clutch pulled in and in gear. Inserted a bolt through the switch hole and put a big fender washer on the other side. So when I tightened the nut the fender washer was forced against the other rubber ring and tightened it up with a little blue loc tight.
Sorry I should have said it was a trike. So the installer had just plastic tied the kick stand switch up out of the way. So after 40k miles the switch moved just enough(inner ring) to cause this problem.
Thanks again for all the help.
Glad ya got it fixed. Those kind of problems can drive one nuts. RIDE SAFE
