Anyone else?

Garnet blasted the ceramic back off and did all the prep again.

I think I got the prep, temperature and thickness right this time. Letting it cure.

I have been very busy with life. The little girlie had to try a musical play, just for kicks.

So I have been carrying her to practice and performance. She is Johanna in Sweeny Todd.

What is this girlie gonna do next?

Did a couple hours this morning.

Ordered the piston rings and the valves.

Then got back on the prep work on the heads and got the ceramic on the chambers.

Then got the bright idea that I needed to mock it up and see how it all fits and looks.

Fenders are off for paint.

I dont really know.

Just like last year....I expect to ride this coming summer.

like stated above...this is a mock up.

The heads are not finished.

I still have lots to do.

More wiring as things find their final place.

Make a new gas tank from scratch.

Headers that I dont have any part for yet.

Made up the Ford spark plug wires for the vw.

Head parts are here.

20161105_112151_zpsiczswn5u.jpg

In the oven.

Time for valve guides and......they are in.

20161105_111419_zps1zp9yv1d.jpg

Just with a quick number check it looks like the exhaust assembles close to height.

But the intake is going to need ground in .030 to .040.

Combustion chamber couldn't be too much larger! Looks like you've about got her "maxed out" from the pics!;)
Whats the advantage of applying the ceramic coating on piston tops & head surfaces?

The heads were these before I modified them.

The ceramic on the inside is a thermal barrier. Insulation so to speak .

It keeps heat from entering the metal .

The idea is the heat leaves with the exhaust instead of soaking into the head.

I have ground in the valve seats.

Shortened the guides in the ports.

Cut the bosses for dual springs.

Garnet blasted/prepped and ceramic coated the new valves and the exhaust ports.

I got some different handle bars.

Did some soldering and now the Honda switches are now npn instead of pnp. So now small negative side relay wires inside the bars.

Just have not had the time to put on the scooter the past couple weeks. So a small update.

Ceramic done on the new valves and in the exhaust ports.

20161022_115101_zpszlarf3ts.jpg

Then the outside of the heads prepped and ceramic coated with the heat release type.

20161125_143421_zpsmn41xm51.jpg

I did want to be assembling the heads and checking spring height numbers. But I had some bad spots in the external ceramic from me getting it too thick. So today i did some garnet blasting on some spots here and there and touched up the ceramic. Now I gotta wait and then cook again. O well.

But I do have the rings on and pistons in the holes. Cyls all rubbed green with quick seat and ready to pin up.

Lots of thoughtful internal engineering going into this oneThumbUp
It should eventually be one of a kind. Heck, it already is RexThumbUp

What would concern me is the coating applied to piston tops & valves somehow coming "unglued" and causing unforeseen damage to your expensive build after all these new engine parts have gotten up to temp.
Perhaps, & I'm hoping for the positive for you 100%, the coating is a non issue. I've just never seen or heard of it being used, but I don't get out much nowadays!...

It is the stuff intended for this purpose.

Works well in high perf high rpm motorcycle engines.

Screenshot_20170812-211919.png

The external stuff is an unknown though. I have never used it. Same brand. we will see.

Not a lot going on with the scooter right now with the holidays and all.

Can not tell where I left off with the pics above, but not much has happened. Mostly building wiring harness.

Did finish out the fan, cooler, signal mounting.
