Pipes

2007 Ultra/Lehman. Putting in S&S 106, 551cam, K&N air filter. Do I need to change out my stock pipes? I don't need any more volume, just want to ensure I'm not sacrificing power.

Every thing is stock

If you stay with a 1.75 baffle but no larger than a 2.0 baffle size muffler and a good tune you will be fine. Too large of a muffler that flows way more than needed, it will move the torque up in the higher rpm range to feel the power of your engine.

Plus, you want to keep the balance of exhaust flow working to flow outward. Otherwise it can cause exhaust reversion which is air being sucked back in. That sucked in air will slow the outgoing exhaust air flow. Reversion happens with a exhaust system or mufflers that is larger than the needs of the engine size being used. If you ever heard a MC back fire or pop when they let off the throttle, some of that is reversion.

I have a 2010 Triglide and had cam, true duals, tuner, dyno, and V&H mufflers that are made for Trikes. Works great but are alittle loud while going thru the gears. Not bad once you smooth out for cruising(can hear the radio well)..... just my 2cents worth...:Coffee:

Ditto what FLTR2008TRIKE said about baffle size, 1.75" or 2" will work well for flow, and should not be too loud.

However, even that will have some significant engine pumping loss due to reversion.

Get a set of Thunder Torque Inserts and that will reduce the reversion to almost nothing, they will deepen the tone a bit too. Increase in power will be in the 7-15% range.

Take a listen to the second bike in this video. It has stock headers, and slip-ons with 2" baffles and the TTI's. Power increase from no TTI's to with the TTI's is around 9% in the 2500-4000 rpm range.
