Emergency Brake Use

How many people use their emergency brake? Pro's or con's to removing the brake lever and all hardware. Would give more ground clearance under the axles and allow me to extend the left footboard out. Tony

I use my emergency brake anytime parking on a slope, I set the emergency and then put it in first gear. Then I have no pressure on gears when finding neutral when I'm getting back on the bike. I don't trust the emergency but it nice to have it and bike in gear for added safety.

It is not an 'emergency brake, but a parking brake. Use it when parking not in an 'emergency'

I still would not trust it...Keep it in gear or use a band around the brake lever as a secondary option from rolling away..

I never use the parking brake, the 1st day I brought it home and tried to move it around in the garage I let the brake off and could hardly move it as the parking brake was dragging, I had to adjust it. when I took it back to the dealer for the 1000 mi. ck. they adjusted the parking brake again, I had to readjust it again when I got it home, same thing, with the brake off, the parking brake was dragging, just extra wear on the rear brakes [built in].<br />
I don't trust it, I just leave it in gear and don't park on a incline.

I use it every morning for start ups. keep it on while bike is warming up. I don't want the trike to vibrate itself down the driveway. don't want to strap the front brake lever either. no point having the brake lights getting hot unnecessarily. <br />
two yrs of using it as intended and no problems.

About half the times I have used the "Parking Brake" I forgot to unlatch it until I went to pull away. Did not get far.

2014 - I'd bet you are not "popping it off" and trying to push and release up .... which will not work. If you do that you have to hook it with your foot and pull up hard. Push down and slide off fast so it pops up fast and hard. THAT is the proper way to release it.

I use both in-gear and parking brake when needed. I always start in neutral.

It didn't take long for me to pull the parking brake and its related hardware off and toss it in the garage attic.

Never us parking brake. Don't have one. Never use reverse. Don't have one. Small piece of Velcro on the handle bar is the best brake system ever. Simplicity at it finest, Well except for "Flintstone Reverse". 9 months riding a trike now 3 days a week and haven't been in a tight spot yet. Did I mention I live in Florida?

Don't like the parking brake, no way. If you don't set it up tight so the trike doesn't move, it's to easy to forget then bad stuff happens when you're ready to ride. I don't even use the thing. Of course, it isn't the parking brake's fault that I can't remember......

My 09 is in need of an adjustment also. I consulted the manual for instructions but sounds like a tremendous hassle. I'm certainly not paying shop rates for adjustment either. Leave it in gear or use a bungee type loop with a plastic ball and hook it around the front brake when necessary. The loop hangs nicely on folded-up highway peg for instant use.

EXACTLY. You always park a cycle in gear .... so it will not roll off the sidestand. A trike should be no different (other than no sidestand!!) The Parking brake is an "added safety".

As far as the floor boards being moved out ..... MANY have done it. Use the same extension kit as before https://www.denniskirk.com/kuryakyn/...prd/497932.sku and buy 1 extra longer bolt and 3/4" spacer from Tractor Supply for the parking Brake bracket and it is all good.

I use the foot brake all the time. On more inclined areas I also use a Velcro band around the front brake lever.

I did ride off once with it on (after I just bought it) - noticed the light about a half mile later and wondered what it was for. So many idiot lights on the display I didn't notice it right away.

Only one adjustment in 8K miles.

Don't know what ground clearance has to do with taking it off - I've never had a problem with that.

I just installed the SOOS floorboard extension kit - fits perfectly.

I will NEVER park my bike in gear- EVER.

Thanks for the link, but with the relocation of the foot brake on the left side the left rear foot board bracket mounts to the frame different.

Same thing with the SOOS floorboard extension kit.

I use the parking brake all the time and leave it in gear. I put it in neutral to start and it doesn't roll while I'm pulling down the visor on my helmet or setting the radio or nav screen.

I use it and keep the trike in first gear. I also put down the passenger peg down to remind me to release the parking brake before I take off.
