Default I've always been curious why people call themselves the name they have.

Guess I'm bored and wanting to see how much action I can get on this.
I'm shadowokie because my husband is vtxokie (rides a vtx1300). At the time I signed up on here that's all I could think of. I'm called several different names by the group I belong to but I'll leave that to your imagination!

I have long grey/silver hair and before retirement was a maintenance foreman in an aluminum plant. Years ago I was riding my buggy down the furnace bay when an overhead crane operator saw me and announced on the hand held radio, "There goes the silver fox". One of the mill operators replied back, "No, that's the old grey dog"!!! Everyone who carried a radio heard it and the nickname stuck!!!

Ozarkryder = I live in the Ozarks and I ride. I tried "Ozarkrider"
on another board and it didn't go through. I changed the i to y and there you have it.

Well, TANG is my initials. And as a kid, usually got drunk drinking "TANGO". We all chipped in and got someone to buy it for us. It was all we could afford back then. It was a cheap vodka and orange tang concoction. Now that I think about it, that stuff was retched! But it worked. LOL

'Pest & I "earned" our names when we were doing Historical reenactments & competing in black powder muzzel loading shoots. When a person is "named", there is a long involved ceremony to make sure everyone present knows their new name & why they "earned" it. She earned her's her very first day "on the mountain". She'd never competed before, so was understandably nervous. Couple that with being put in a group of some of the top shooters at the event, except me -- I didn't shoot very well back then. Since it takes an experienced shooter about 30 sec - 1 min to reload, + time to aim & fire, by the time her turn came again, it was probably close to 15 minutes between shots & she still wasn't ready. She was shaking so badly she poured more powder on the ground than she got down the barrel of her .45 rifle. Then she screwed up & opened her mouth & said "I hate to be such a pest, guys." Ol' Dean "Two Hammers" Cannon, was keeping score & when he heard her say that his eyes lit up like 100 watt light bulbs! "I think there's a name in that!!" Since she's only 5' nothin' tall, she's been "Li'l Pest" since that fateful day.

HMMM -- this is gonna get long -- sorry.

I'd been shooting for about 4 years when I FINALY got a name hung on me. Friend, "No Bear" & I had gone to an event close to Payson AZ, second weekend of November. The weather was everything we DID NOT want at a doin's -- rain, snow, hail, sleet, in a word, it was WET & considering the time of the year, cold! Back then I was still wearing "Tandy kit mocs" which were about one step above being barefoot. Now, No Bear liked to tip the jug a bit, if you catch my drift. The previous Summer, Pest & I had gone to our first National doin's & I'd overheard 2 old timers talking about people wearing the "phony leather", Naugahyde. They came up with all the ways to trap "Naugas" & prepare their hides -- it was a very entertaining 45 min. Back to Payson -- Did I mention No Bear tipped the jug a bit? Late in the second day of the event, I got tired of having my feet wet, so I went back to camp. There No Bear was stretched out on his blankets with his jug cradeled in one arm doing a GREAT imitation of a saw mill. Right then was my chance! Using the old back packer's trick, I started stuffing plastic bags inside my moccasins. I was just trimming off the top of the second one so it wasn't TOO visible, when No Bear set straight up on his blankets & yelled; "WHAT in #$%% are you doin''?" Wellll --- Brain goes in neutral & mouth goes into overdeive -- I blurted out; "I found these thin skined Naugas out by the trash can, so I skunt 'em out & I'm a puttin' their hides inside my mocs to keep my feet dry!" Needless to say, I've been known as "Nauga Mok" ever since! Now, how No Bear & Two Hammers got THEIR names, will have to wait for a campfire somewhere down the road.

Was Reksul on about every forum I can think of. It's my school nickname spelled backwards and part of my last name. Don't remember how I got it but guess I did 'cuz it stuck like hot gum on a boot.

Then came a name change by a moderator on another forum. They had issues with their bike so I tuned the map on the ECM. After the final dyno run they came back white as a ghost. The next day my name was Mr. Wizard on the other forum. Was a joke and I had a heck of a time signing on. The moderator won't change it back so here we are. So others would know me in other forums I changed them all.

    No good dead goes unpunished.

No big mystery here ...... Hep (1st three letters of my last name) + engr (am a mechanical engineer working in the maintenance dept at an open pit copper mine here in AZ, & also volunteer at a railroad museum in NV where I am qualified as engineer on both steam and diesel locomotives.)

A Photo of my second favorite ride.... NNRY 93, 1909 ALCO (American Locomotive Co.), 2-8-0, 48" drivers, 190 PSI Boiler Press, Class II Superheaters, 36,000 Lbs Tractive Effort

I could probably come up with a better handle, but we engi-nurds aren't real good with things that can't be stated in an equation.

So looks like I'm stuck with Hepengr

If I ever heard it, I plumb forgot. I DID write an article for a news letter once that was a loose adaptation of the tale those old timers at the '93 Western Narional spun while I was listening. That ad slogan fits right in with that article. This too is another good campfire tale for down the road.

When I got my first "Geezer-Glide," a 1999 UltraClassic, my riding buds, as well as the J&P forum crowd started calling me 'ultraboy' and it stuck. Almost everything I've written bike & trike wize has been written under that name.
