reverse shifter

Has anyone put an extention on the handle of a champion reverse shifter ? if so do u just unscrew the black knob ?

Depending on the type extension you got, that's pretty much the case. You'll need to either leave or add a "jam nut" on the origional shifter so your extension stays where you want it. For some reason, locktite doesn't seem to work well in this aplication. You can find shifter extensions at almost any truck stop -- straight ones, bent ones, etc.. Just pick up the proper size thread that matches your shifter in the shape you want. Take your knob to an auto parts place & see which bolt screws in easily & match that size, unless you're like me & can "eyeball it". The shifter extensions are USUALLY the same thread on both ends except one end is "male" & the other "female". It states on the package which thread it is.

I don't know if champion has changed their shifter, but mine is about 4 years old and the black handle was glued on. No threads on the shaft.

I made several of these a while back, with most of them going to TT members. I've got two left, plus material to make many more. They are 6-3/8" long overall (including the plastic knob) and are made of stainless steel. You'll need to slit your original plastic knob with a cutoff wheel and remove it. The handle extension fits over the original shifter, and is held on with two set screws. The extension can be heated and bent if needed for exhaust pipe/air cleaner clearance. These are for Champion reverse, HD 5-speed.

Thanks trikers, for that info, I'm looking at installing a draft beer handle I saw at a local hang out. It's a Fireman 4 draft beer handle, its fire engine red and has a number 4 on it. I'm a retired fire Captain from Station 4. If every thing works out i'll send some pics.

Chef: I also installed one of Ultraboys extension & it worked & looks great. One of the problems you may have with the Beer Tap handle could be clearance as some of them are quite high....

Bluetrinity, I checked that web site, and those are pretty nice indeed! The current champion 5-speed knobs are 1/2-13 thread, which they don't list.
I too, didn't like the black plastic knob, and picked up a cool 'skull' shift knob with red eyes from Jegs for about 10 bucks.
