    Default Honda Goldwing Brake Recall

I recieved the second brake recall for my '06 Goldwing/Roadsmith HT1800 trike. Does this recall include trikes or just two wheels?

Yours is a 2 wheel. Honda does not make a trike. But since your trike altered the brake system I gonna guess mother Honda is not gonna cover your trike.

Strange, mine to is a trike and Honda covered the check the first time. Took it to a Honda dealer that also does trikes. Probably never told Honda it was a trike!!!!!!

It will be interesting to see how the dealers handle this recall. Granted you have a trike but your rear brakes are plugged into a stock GL1800 system. And in a lot of the trike manufacturers case the rear brakes are proven auto or powersports units like Polaris and such. The only issue you have to be careful of if youre not familiar with the dealer is to be sure they will cover Hondas issue. I have one dealer by me for example that if you call him up with a problem conducive to GL1800s he'll say *Bring it in!,I'll look at it!". Now after all that you mention its a trike his first words are "Honda doesnt warranty trikes!". And he wont work on it for warranty as he would a 2 wheeler. And he wonders why he doesnt get many trikes by him.

My 07 CSC trike just had a secondary master cylinder failure. (79,000 miles --- five weeks past extended warranty)
Mother Honda covered the whole repair.

I was having a problem with rapid pad wear on the rear.

One must remember that most dealers are not set up to work on trikes. That's why most refuse.
BTW, warranty is still good on trikes, unless the failure mode can be blamed on the conversion. Then your warranty claim will most likely be denied.

INITIAL SAFETY RECALL NOTICE - 2001-2012 GL1800 Motorcycles

    September 8, 2014

Honda has decided that a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety exists in 2001-2012 model year GL1800 motorcycles. The secondary master cylinder repair conducted in 2011, pursuant to NHTSA recall 11V-567, was not sufficient enough in preventing the rear brake from dragging. Under certain conditions there is still a possibility that the combined braking system’s secondary master cylinder may cause the rear brake to drag. Unexpected braking increases the risk of a crash and riding the motorcycle with the rear brake dragging may generate enough heat to cause the rear brake to catch fire.

Mine is NOT a two wheeler. It is a Honda Goldwing converted with a Roadsmith HT1800 trike. I'm not sure why you think you know what I ride

Easy, Easy, I was referring to the fact that Honda Does not warrenty trikes. Most dealers will tell you to take a hike. Some dealers will not tell Mother Honda that the two wheeler has been triked. You should try to find one of them to have this work done under recall.

I thought I would have to pay for the repair. The Service Manager at the dealership said the Honda Rep was going to be at the shop the next day and would take a look at the TRIKE. This dealership did not build my TRIKE. Service Manager called the next day and said HONDA was going to cover the REPAIR. I got the recall notice about a week later.

This very issue is exactly why I had my Roadsmith conversion done by a Honda Dealer who is a very reputable trike builder. I called the service manager and left a message, I'm waiting to hear back from them.

When it comes to cars all safety recalls are covered even with salvaged titles.

This recall would only affect you if you have your linked system still in tact. My CSC is a linked system.

My dealer said when parts are available they will take care of it but if I have issues with the brakes dragging bring it in right away. No way should you have any problem getting it taken care of because it's a safety related recall.

Check the BRAKE PADS on the rear. There are two sets per side. If the front set is worn a lot more than the rear, you probably have a DRAGGING problem. On my trike the FRONT PADS (Rear brakes) were gone at 8000 miles. The REAR PADS would have lasted another 20,000 miles.

Smile Re: Honda Goldwing Brake Recall

If your trike uses the cylinders in a similar way to a 2 wheeler, Honda will do the recall work on a trike. But I believe you want to set it up with the Honda dealer in advance.

My DFT uses the stock Honda brakes, down to the last washer. I did take my trike to a Honda dealer who sells and installs trikes. Made more sense to me.
