Do I have a sea level GW trike?

When riding in high mountain roads my GW water temp guage will red line. I loose no coolent but can smell the hot engine.Took it to dealer replaced water pump, thermostat, coolent and checked radiator cap. Next mountain ride same problem. Road the Oregan coast no problem. I'm beginning to think I have a sea level GW. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Does your fan come on when your temperature
gauge starts to go above normal?

From what I can tell from your profile you have an '05 Wing. If so, that's before they enlarged the radiators. As long as it's not spewing fluid I would think it's ok; not going to damage anything. Especially since you've had the whole system re-worked. Just keep your speed up as much as possible so you're getting good airflow.

ok what kind of antifreeze are you using. if you are using anything normal like prestone or any other car antifreeze this is your problem.

Motorcycles of all kinds require anti boil additives.

I use ice and water wetter together.

I live in vegas and have no issues and no you do not have sea level bike goldwing automatically adjust for altitude. you are just running wrong antifreeze spend more money and get racing freeze for motorcycles its called ice.

Neighbors wing had this same problem for about 2 years he fought it, Honda shop finally investigated a piece at a time and found casting material that had got trapped when the heads were built, somebody never checked or went to lunch. One side was fine the other was plugged up 80%, Honda covered it under warranty luckily although the bike was out of warranty as he had his records. I believe they even covered some of his previous attempts to have the problem corrected, when they found nothing!!

Rode my 2010 GW roadsmith to the top of Pikes Peak this past September. It was 40 deg. at the top and mine
red lined the temp. I had changed the anti freeze to one of the motorcycle brands before I left on the trip.

The speed limit going up Pikes Peak is between 15 and 35 mph.

I do know if your running 20 - 25 mph it isn't quite enough air through the radiators to cool it, plus your going up a hill which is putting more load on the engine. 35 mph should just be enough air to cool things down.

I did not see it has a big problem, I stopped 3/4s of the way up and let it idle
till it cooled back down then finished are trip. The fans were running but I think
between the extra weight of the trike and the thin air there was not enough
cooling. We pulled a trailer from Ohio to Colorado and back in 80 deg. weather
and never got above normal.

Never a problem with my 2012 pulling a trailer, only time my temp got above normal was in slow moving traffic. I found 25 mph and slower would make things start getting quite warm, above 15 or 16 mph and the fans don't run, 25 mph still isn't enough air moving through the radiators to cool it.

Now when I got slowed way down to a creep the temp would drop right back to normal.
