I have done my share of towing over the years, all with V 8 engines in pick up trucks. We however are in the market for purchasing a new auto as well, and have been considering the Ford explorer with the tow package which has the larger horse powered V6 and advertised to be able to handle up to 5,000 Lbs , "note I said advertised " The trailer is a round 1,100 lbs give or take 200 hundred pounds or so, my trike goes in at around 1,100 lbs, so the Explorer should be able to handle at least half of the advertised load, not like an 8 cylinder of course be at least to get ya by, and as you mentioned your speed and head wind is always a factor which must be accounted for.. Appreciate you sharing the cost factor in your travels.
it will be more than a few bucks for damn sure but I like your wife's suggestion about "just taking a mini or early winter vacation"...Hummmm I like taking vacations and have been on one for several years now. Maybe a vacation within a vacation is in order.
