    Default Road Zeppelin seat

Has anyone used this seat. I have a 2015 tri glide and the seat is killing me, I need to be up and back some. Have had trouble with a cyst on my tailbone before and don't want it back.

I have a Road Zeppelin seat and really like it. Best thing to do is find a local dealer that has a Demo seat and test it out. Purchased too many seats in the past (before the Demo program) and not happy with them. I didn't want to spend that much money and not be happy with the seat.

One problem with the '15 and the RZ is that the connection for the auxillary plug is now under the left side cover and requires the extension plug to make it work.

As far as adding air to the rear air bag, you don't need to put as much air in that portion as you would in the front. The advantage is that you can change the pressure up or down and change the pressure points while traveling and allow comfort for all day riding.

I had one for a while and as the rider I loved it. However, my rear passenger felt cramped as the additional back rest pushed her too far forward on our SE Ultra. Sold and returned to original seat.

I agree. I've had a RZ seat since 2003 on my Ultra. That was a great seat because it had 3 bladders - the one in the middle was the one I really needed because of my sciatic nerve. The new RZ seat removed that bladder. The seat is still 1000% better then any of the other off the wall custom seats. And cheaper because you don't loose any money when you buy one seat and after a few hundred miles you have to buy another seat and start the whole process all over again and again.

Joelin, by the way I know what you're going through. Years ago I had that pilonidal cyst also and one day it got blocked up and had to have it lanced - that pain was so excruciating that I had it surgically removed because the doctor said it can happen again. Best thing I've ever done. Good luck but I don't think the RZ will relive your pain because of the missing center bladder - just my opinion.
Suggestion: See if a local upholsterer can carve out a center section on your stock seat or any seat you might want to buy. Worth a look.

See if your dealer has one you can sit on as not all seats are for everyone..

After awhile the RZ can become uncomfortable..But like I stated it may not be for everyone..

I love mine. No issues on the 4k trip in July. I have tried the Hammock and did not like it. The Zeppelin I am comfortable right up to 2.5 to 3 hours. Get off for gas and restroom and am ready to go another 2.5 to 3 hours.

On my wish list is an Airhawk R cushion for my stock seat. 60 day return policy no questions asked by the manufacturer.

It has been highly recommended by many on the various Harley forums. I can also use it on my ZRX 1200R.

I'd like to also add that when I ride in my Olympia Airglide 3 pants it is way, way more comfortable than dungarees.

Thumbs up from me as to the AirHawk. I have an "R" model that I use regularly - Harley, Nova, Burgman - for everything! In fact I'm sitting on it right now as I type (I'm still wheelchairing part time while my leg heals its 6 breaks from my clash with the 800# air compressor on the back of a pickup truck - at least it started out up there). The best selling feature that I appreciate on it is the unbladdered area where your private parts go so no squashing or pinching.

I also have a high$$$ gel pad that sits on a shelf most of the time, but it's pretty comfortable when used.

When that happens all you have to do is press a couple buttons and you have a whole new seat with different pressure points - not so with a static seat.

It is pricey, but cheaper then having to buy 3 or 4 seats before finding one you like.

But you are right, it's not for some people especially those that don't want to be any closer to the front.

I like my RZ. I've used it for about 4 years now. My wife likes to supplement it with an AirHawk cushion. We rode across LA last year and she poked a hole in it. She felt pain. I patched it and the rest of the trip was great. As a rider, I never have a sore arse.

Trust me I pressed buttons and added air released air and made things worse..It is nice for a few hours after that it started to become uncomfortable..Some seats are not meant for all fannies..

I can understand that. That happened to me too when I first bought the seat. What I do now is re-adjust the settings every 20 minutes BEFORE the pain starts to set in. That works great for me. If I wait till it starts to be uncomfortable then it's pretty much a lost cause.

For me it's a lot better then a stationary seat....that kind you can't do any adjustability.

Give that a try. Maybe it'll work for you too.

I still wish I had the old seat with the 3 bladders - I really miss the center one.

Do you mean they only have 2 buttons now?? The one I had on my Triglide had 3 bladders.. driver Middle,Driver back, and passenger..

Here is the difference between the early & late versions:
The older RZ's had 2 chambers in the pillion. One chamber outside chamber (thigh zone)was controlled with the 1st button that also ran the same chambers on the riders seat at the same time.. The other chamber (tailbone chamber) was controlled by the 2nd button which worked both the rider's same chamber at the same time.
The 3rd button controlled the lower back chamber in the rider's seat only.
If you wanted to change any pressures your passenger also must want changes at the same time.
The newer chambers went to a single chamber in the pillion controlled by the 3rd button.
The riders chambers went to just two areas. The lower back on the 2nd button, And the thigh chambers controlled by the 1st button. The tailbone area is left open for the rider, but closed for the pillion.
Other differences are the old model is leather covered while the newer version is vinyl covered.
Seat width on the older model is rider 21", 17"pillion.
Seat width on the new model is rider 20", 14.5" pillion.
In my humble opinion, they should have left it leather covered, put two controls on the pillion & left the tailbone chamber there. This is why an Air Hawk pad that relieves the tailbone is needed on the RZ seat.
Used three switches for the rider & left the tailbone chamber there also. In other words left it like it was but just separate the seat chambers & add two switches.
But with Harley pricing that would put it over $1000. The older model is now $939.95 & the newer version is $739.95.

I had the original AZ seat in leather ($100 extra) and included a rain cover, but they also had it in vinyl back then. Now it's only available in leather.

I only rode solo so I'm trying to remember, but I thought the old system had 3 buttons for the rider and 2 buttons for the passenger and were not interconnected. I could be wrong. Maybe someone with the old original can verify this. All I know is I sure wish they had kept the center bladder.

Still the best seat on the market.

Gary I think you are correct on the older models. Before they came out with the later version. Pre 2008 I think is when it changed. The new /old model just has 3 switches.
I think they went backwards in features for what they sell for.

I had one on my '09 TG and liked it, so when I traded it for the '14 i made sure they swapped seats!

Mine is about 1.5 years old. Very comfortable seat when it worked.
It is leaking now and needs repaired.
I'll pay the $$ to get it fixed, but honest opinion....
    Wish I hadn't bought it.
