Default Have you installed a lift kit?

I am getting closer to buy my comfort lift kit. I first have to get a jack and some jack stands, going into town today to see what I can buy.

My main question is how do you handle the front tire? How do you keep it in place while you do the install? I was thinking of tying the rim to both sides of the engine guard would that work? Also tying down the front brake lever?

You can do that if you like. But once the rear is up on jack stands it should not go anywhere. Just locking the brake should suffice if you don't want to worry.

To answer your main question... Heavy rubber band [The kind I keep my 100's wrapped in ] on the front brake lever.. They sell them at Staples.. Less the 100's...

Default Re: Have you installed a lift kit?

I bought the jack and a pair of stands tonight. I can tie the brake down but was concerned about the wheel turning while I did the install.

I have read the installation pdf but I am not clear on a few issues.

    4. Place jack stands under cross member (closest to front wheel) below trunk area.
Remove jacks from under axle so that the tires are still off the ground and the weight is being supported
    by the jack stands.

This confuses me. Is the front cross member also the axle? Where do I place the jack in order to raise the trike?
I only have 2 jack stands do I need 4?
Do they mean that the axle is hanging in the air just off the ground because the jack stands are supporting the front cross member?

This is a copy of the pdf.

    PREMIUM COMFORT LIFT KIT
    All Years Tri-Glide
    Made in The USA!
    INSTRUCTIONS
(Please read all instructions before beginning the installation)
    Parts included:
2 CNC Cut Lower Shock Mount Brackets (1.25” lift) (.5” offset)
Installation Steps: (It is important to do these steps in the order listed)
    1. Secure the front wheel. (a wheel chock or velcro holding the front brake lever works well).
    2. Loosen lug nuts on both rear wheels.
    3. Raise rear of Trike until both rear tires are off the ground 2*3 inches.
    4. Place jack stands under cross member (closest to front wheel) below trunk area. Remove
jacks from under axle so that the tires are still off the ground and the weight is being supported
    by the jack stands.
    5. Place a jack under the rear pulley housing/guard. Leave a 1 inch space between the jack &
the bottom of the guard. (this will be used later to adjust the axle for easy shock re*installation)
    6. Remove the rear wheels & let all the air out of the shocks.
    7. Loosen the the bottom shock bolt with a 3⁄4” open end wrench.
    8. Remove all three bolts securing lower shock mount to pinch blocks using a 9/16” socket.
    Finish removing bottom shock bolt.
    9. Repeat process on the other side. When finished the pulley housing/guard may have
dropped down and be resting on the jack. That is ok, that is what it is there for.
    10. When installing the new shock mount brackets, please note there is a Left & Right side. The
boss (nut welded to the bracket) goes on the outside (closest to the tire).
    11. Choose a side to begin (does not matter which), install the bottom shock bolt into the New
shock mount bracket (finger tight only).
    12. Install the center bottom bolt securing the bracket to the pinch bolt assembly, then install the
other two bolts securing the bracket to the pinch bolt assembly. At this point you may need to
lower or higher the jack under the pulley guard to get all the bolts to line up easily.
12b. If all the bolts do not line up easily, (no force on the the shocks or brackets is needed) then
go to the General Notes below regarding the swingarm & exhaust.
    13. Tighten all 4 bolts to HD Torque Values listed below.
    14. Repeat steps 12 & 13 on the other side.
    15. Install wheels and remove jack stands and jack.
    16. Tighten lug nuts to HD Torque Value listed below.
    17. Now that the back end is lifted, the headlight will be pointed down a little lower than it should
be. Please adjust it per your manual for best visibility.
    18. Go for a ride!
    19. After 50 miles re*torque lug nuts to Torque Value listed below
    General Notes:
    ● Lug Nuts * HD Torque Value 90*-100 ft lbs.
    ● Bracket Bolts * HD Torque Value 41-*45 ft lbs. Blue (medium) threadlocker
    ● Shock Bolts * HD Torque Value 55-*60 ft lbs. Red (High Strength) threadlocker
    ● The riders safety depends on the correct installation of this kit. Please do not attempt if
you have any doubts of your ability to install.
    ● For 2014 Tri*Glides you will need to remove the two allen fasteners holding the parking
brake bracket in order to get to the left side shock mount bracket.
    ● If your exhaust system has a separate Z pipe between the headers and slip*on
mufflers, the swingarm may rest on that Z pipe preventing the installation of the new
shock mount brackets. If this happens, you can either move the Z pipe forward a little on
the headers to get more clearance, or you can remove the bolt holding the crossover
pipe. This will also the swingarm to push down the Z pipe a little for installation of the
brackets. Once the wheels are back on, and on the ground, that is the time to put the
crossover pipe hanger bolt back in. (see pic for Z Pipe identification)
    ● Installing this lift will result in a slight weight distribution change on your Tri*Glide. It will
handle better and ride better. However, Exercise caution as you get accustomed to the
    improved/different handling characteristics.
    ● Because the shocks are positioned further back on the swingarm, there is more leverage
on them, resulting in a smoother ride. However, you will need to adjust the PSI in the
shocks to take full advantage. As little as 2 lbs PSI makes a difference in ride quality, so
experiment to find what PSI is best for you.

Sorry to be so dumb just not use to working on trikes and want to make sure I am doing everything right before I start.

What the instructions is saying. Place your jack under the axle. Jack it up so that the tire is at least 2 inches off the floor or whatever it is sitting on. Place a jack stand under the cross member that is in front of the axle that crosses under the trunk area. Lower the jack and do the same thing on the other side. Requires at a minimum 1 jack and 2 jack stands.

After jacking up one side, I place jack stand between mufflers under rear brace, then jack up other side and repeat.
I place floor jack under shock bracket (tie down ring) for raising rear of TG

Also watch the jack stands top ears & don't let them hit the bottom of the trunk. Just the metal cross-member.
