Default 2011 triglide hd adj. backrest will fit on 2014 tri glide

I kept my hd adj. back rest off of my 11 tg when I traded for a 14 tg. I know hd said it wouldn't fit BUT I had to check it out, bracket bolted right up no modifications. I did route the cable for the adjustment lever a little different, works fine. I do take the back rest off and on a lot and I think it might be easier to get the back rest in the bracket on the 14 than it was on the 11. both the 11 and the 14 had stock seats.

On the regular two wheelers they don't fit as well because of the redesign on the rear seat/fender area on the 14 and up bikes. They could be used on the two wheelers but you had to modify them just a bit to make them work

We did the same thing with the backrest from wife's '11 Tri to her new '14. I took the adjuster and cut a square hole in the heat shield and mounted it there. Looks pretty good. They use the same bracket and backrest for the Freewheeler, problem is the seat is 3" shorter so the backrest it too tall. I cut the adjuster bracket off and re-welded it 3" lower so the pad could sit on the seat like they do on the Tri.

    Why 3 wheels?

because 2 isn't enough and 4 is too many

I used my standard backrest off the 13 Road King on the 15 Tri Glide...I removed the passenger grab bar and mounted it there without a problem...

Yesterday, I installed the HD adjustable backrest from a 2012 Ultra to my 2013 Tri Glide.
The lower mount came up 11/16's short so I made a new one. Just happened to have a hardware part (bolt yoke) from a foot operated door latch that matched the 1-1/4 bolt spacing and only had to drill the upper hole to match up. This is used with the passenger grab bar. Found the backrest on Craigslist for $125. and it was just like new. Life is good.

I have the non-adjustable backrest that has been on a 2005 Touring model, then a 2009, then a 2011 and now on the 2014. Bolted up no changes needed, even though HD said it would not fit.

I'm assuming you mean a 2014 TG right?

This is exactly what I am looking for. I don't want an adjustable back rest, just a stock H-D back rest. As you said Harley says it won't fit, just the adjustable ones.

Was there any kind of modifications that had to be made? Any special installation tips?

Do you by any chance have the part number for the back rest?

I have the Road Zepplin seat (only in the summer) which has a large opening between the front and back. I don't think that would be a problem.

    Thanks again for the info.

I have had my non adjustable on a 8,9,12 ultras I kept the small mount off 12 and everything bolted up great on the 15 TG. the bracket is just a small angle for front, would be very easy to fabric or should be able to purchase.

Yes, it was on a 2005 Road King, then a 2009 Ultra, then a 2011 TG and now a 2014 TG.

Straight bolt-on. I could not find the part # from about 10 years ago, but it looks just like part # 52589-09A that is currently on the HD website at this link- (and it says it does not fit the Trike models...which is wrong, it does bolt right up on the TG's)

    http://www.harley-davidson.com/store...01-5258909a--1

The backrest I like is no longer available, but looks like this one-

    http://www.ebay.com/itm/Genuine-Harl...787501&vxp=mtr

I like this one because the shape of it is most comfortable for my back...I don't like the ones that curve a bit, they dig in to my back. The other thing these have is a nice large pocket in the back of them for the passenger to use.

Default Shortening the bracket for the Freewheeler

Did you cut the box shorter or raise the bracket? I don't have a bracket in front of me. Is it possible to cut off the male part of the backrest to accomplish the same end result? As I said without the part in front of me Im just shooting blanks. So if I understand you used a 2011 Triglide adjustable bracket as the beginning donor?

    Thanks

The mounting bracket for the adjuster replaces the left heat shield on the trikes. I removed the mounting bracket and cut a square hole in the heat shield then mounted the adjusting lever into the heatshield.

The main bracket that the backrest post inserts into if I understand correctly is 3" too tall. Could you tell me what part of it you cut 3" off and re welded.

    Thanks

Ditto ... when I traded I kept mine ... bolted right up.
